Petrol in Diesel Engine - Mondeo TDCi

Not a question to do with a renault but thought I would ask anyway.

Just spoken to my old man and he says that he accidently put petrol in his TDCi mondeo this morning (53 plate). However, he says that the tank was very low and he only put 1 litre max in it of petrol so then topped it up to the top with diesel. Since then he drove about 5 miles home from where he filled it up. Basically what I need to know is if thats likely to be OK?

I know with older diesels you could get away with just mixing it but I also know that the injectors and other componenents in modern diesels are very sensitive to petrol. However, I don't know if its likely to be ok bearing in mind that there is only 1 litre of petrol in a full tank of diesel.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

should be ok as long as he didn't put more in. the diesel should thin out the petrol enough to be used.

ok, will probably just drive it as it is but keep topping it up as soon as it drops a bit. Will hold you lot responsible if it breaks ;) (though the way things are going I'll probably do a pretty good job of it myself )

should be ok, this is something I deal with or if not me one of the other boys at least twice a week.

Although sometimes we have seen new pumpsneeded after someone only put a fiver in then filled the rest with diesel.

Just depends on your luck

thought the nozzles on pumps/filling necks on cars, were different size to try and stop this thing happening? (yet to happen to me)

I think diesel pumps have bigger nozzles on them so that you can't put diesel in a petrol car but there isn't anything to prevent you from putting petrol in a diesel.
