PAS bottle location? Slight rubbing noise sometimes

Hi,

Two questions which I am hoping are related:

Sometimes when driving my car I notice a "whining" sound when steering - if I park up and slightly move the steering wheel to the left and then right I can hear a kind of rubbing noise, like a belt rubbing noise perhaps. It does seem that most of the time this doesn't happen and normally turning the car off and on again fixes the issue!

I'm not sure, but maybe it's related to low power steering fluid? This brings me on to my next question, where is it located!? The manual shows it's beside the engine coolant, to the left. Well, I've looked all over the place and it's not. I then read it's actually on the right... so, I went back out and checked. I can sort of see what may be a bottle with what may be a picture of a yellow steering wheel on a cap which I guess could be the bottle but it's probably my imagination and making images out of random drawings inside the engine bay. If it is the bottle, it looks a nightmare to get to (in that the entire plastic off the rear will need to be removed).

Any help, as always, is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ricky

Ricky,

If you stand and look at the rear of your car, its on the right side beneath the main Engine Cover. It's quite hard to spot unless you remove the covers! Ours whined like buggery when going round right hand bends! Topped fluid up and all sorted.

Cheers both. The image in the PDF is the same as the manual - it looks to me that it is showing, from the rear, the bottom left of the engine bay where the coolant is. I think in fact, it's nearer the top right from the rear, as Woody has suggested. So I think it's on the right where I was looking (from the rear! and left vice versa :) ).

Great help as always.

Oh, and Woody, did you have to take the outer plastic cover off to access it? Tricky?

Ricky. TBH, an air con company topped it up for us when we had the air con repaired, however, when I changed the spark plugs I removed all the covers and hey presto, there it was! quietly sat there smerking at me

Had my cover off @ the w/e to fix the air intake which had shaken loose & can confirm you need to remove them to get at the pas bottle, see image......

Was in at mine today to top up the fluid and just have a general check around. I've got power steering for the first time in about 6 months now haha.
