P0300 misfire code on Phase 1 Vee

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the following.....

Driving along and the central "electronic problem" (rectangle with the zigg zag line inside) warning light comes on in the display, engine stays running at idle but has no throttle response at all. Then i switch off the engine & re started it & all is ok again for the rest of the 30 mile journey.

Then sometimes when i start it the same warning light comes on straight away & it will only idle again, switch off ignition & re start it & it's all ok again.

I'm getting the following code & message when i plug my basic diagnostic tester in... P0300 code & "Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected"

I presume this is probably one or more coil packs starting to give up but without knowing exactly which one i may have to change all 6 which is a pain & expensive.

It could of course might be something else causing the "random multiple cylinder misfire" so does anyone have experience of this fault code & symptoms ?

Looking forward to any info

Kindest regards

Jules.

Yes the 3 coil packs on the rear bank are as you have to remove the intake manifold to get to them.

It did it again yesterday, engine just goes to idle & the warning light comes on while driving but a switch off & re start sorts it out. I think it's more electronic sensor / throttle position related than coil packs but i could be wrong. I was thinking about the fly by wire throttle system as the fault is a drop to idle.

Anyone with any more thoughts on a possible fault other than coil packs ?

Sorry I am not technical in any way, I only recall what mechanics did and told me.

After my coils were fitted they then fitted some sort of throttle sensor, it was at the back of the plenum chamber somewhere. It was a Bosch part as the OEM one was on back order in France.

Ok, good info James. Do you remember if that was an expensive part ? It might have been the electronic throttle body they fitted which would be pricey, that would pin it down.

A wee black plastic thing with one screw fixing in it, was about £65
Something about throttle position :s
