Overheating

possibly head gasket failure or aweak water pump, does the oil look normal in the engine or is there any milkyness?

as neal said, or if rad weld has ever been used on it it can cause problems, could also be an airlock, or possibly the weak water pump issue, how high is the temp rising? and when does it rise, on the open road without obstruction or when sitting in traffic? is your rad fan coming on?

checked water pump ok oil looks fine its going to just above half way mark on open road and sitting in traffic the fan doesnt seem to kick in changed that but still overheating the expansion bottle boils up!
thanks for your help im crap with cars lol

fush the cooling system, buy a new thermostat, fit that and new coolant, and go from there. could be a knackered thermo or an airlock. does you heater in the car blow hot air?

re read the post me bad, just ignore everything ive said apart from the question lol

i think this car should have the little screw on the pipe to release the trapped air, i could be wrong, leave the car run with the cap off the expansion bottle, see if the water pump is actually putting out much water, could be a dead pump in there, been there before

or back fill it with the screw out that worked for me with hose pipe lol,, but,, there so many issues you cud have start cheap work way up,, to be fair i changed the rubber seal on bottle cap years ago,an had no issue when liquid went missing,, , (with old 19 i had :)' rip!! :)

yeah the 16v doesnt have the screw on the pipe jay, im not even sure if all the 1.4's had it, the couple ive had have it on them but on the others as you said the screw on the rad is where its at

all fuses okay and all? if the fan itself is broken in some way i imagine it would be handy enough to get one off one of us on here or even from a breakers, i would offer my spare but postage from here would be awful

my 1.4 has a bleed on the top pipe mainly because its a f1 car

Over heating eh! might be what we call at work as a CHOO CHOO train aka headgasket
