Old car - New tech

I'll keep it simple, so old car being a base model Renault 5...... I might be wrong but if you can drop an F4R lump into a 5 then to me whatever engines they put in a Mk2 Clio could go into, sit onto the 5 subframe?..... Still reading?

Therefore, if said Mk2 model had AC and OK for example the F4R..... What are the chances of retrofitting everything available like the AC, and all the other electrickery into the 5? Like having a donor car, using the ECU, UCH and the looms then fit it into the shell as it would have been in the Clio? Same layout, different car.

If your picking up the lot and putting it in another car ( reshell in effect ) the only think limiting you will be space in the bay.

The super5 bay a bit small to be fitting clio2 ac compressor, the usual route is deleting it all and running alternator only and manual steering. You would need to get creative with the grinder to get it in

So too many ancillaries, do you think with the AC compressor in its gonna be too tight in front of it then?

i think its a no go, i reckon the ac compressor would foul the subframe leg up front, and not sure if you can fit the subframe mount with the ac compressor.

Pic of Robbie Kilmartins old extra with f4r for reference, even alternator is tight and more room in an Extra.C545D1D5-50CA-4D6D-8E6E-AB209F01E669.webp

Ah OK, and wouldn't make a difference with a smaller engined Clio with AC?

F4R was also a reference to it sitting on the 5 subframe so my thinking was any engine (sorting mounts) could find it's way in the bay..... Failing that just scrap the whole idea!

I think you would run into the same issues with the lower cc models, they are very similar with the ac compressor mounts iirc. It could be done, but would defo need some grinder action.

It's running the risk of paying out for a donor, stripping both out then dropping it in for it not to fit/work out..... At the moment it's just an idea.

Most things are possible, but time and money are usually the factors, not knowing much about fitting one myself I can't say.

In theory, the Meg f4r alternator mounting bracket mounts the aircon compressor underneath it so if there's nothing below it?
It could be possible.

Same lower mounting for a/c on the f4r sadly, i dont think it will go especially if subframe mounting.

I wonder what the 1.5 dci setup looks like, although unsure if the dci has an AC option in the MK2. Again keeping it Clio based to drop it on the 5 subframe.

Mk2 Clio Dci has the ac compressor in the same place. Ive recently bought another mk2 with ac for work, and its all very tight down there on the clio.

Don’t forget it’s not just fitting the compressor into the engine bay, you also have to figure out getting the condenser into the Heater box in the car, to allow for the cool air to reach the interior.
