5 GT Turbo Oil leak !!!!!

Hi all

I recently rebuilt an old forum members car named Vera as my friend bought her from a guy on here and she blew up in 15 miles !!
Any how she now runs great with a brand new set of liners etc but I have a persistent oil leak I've had the sump off twice but am now fairly suspicious of the front main oil seal ! Does anyone know if I can run it without the bottom pulley on does it have a key way on the bottom chain gear ?? To see if it is the front main leaking as the stupid pulley covers it up and it only leaks after running for a couple of minutes!!!
Any info is very welcome as the new owner want her back and I want my garage lol

Thanks

the bottom pulley turns the water pump, i would advise against running it with it removed. you can pull it off though and have a look for witness marks or traces of oil.

The pulley seal is a doddle to change and only takes ten mins to do so if you think its leaking bosh another one in. You cant run without the crank pulley on as it turns the water pump.

I reckon it will be the timing chain cover thats actually leaking. Whip the lot off and reseal it with tiger seal, get plenty of sealant on the rubber half moon seal that goes onto the sump as they piss out. You will do well to make it totally oil tight though these old c1j's generally leak like a sieve.

I always have little patches of oil under the car when left in the garage for a few days. I've tried to go round and find as many as I can but I have kind of given up now. Interestingly the level on my dipstick hardly ever changes. Perhaps a tiny top up every 4 weeks or so. lol

Thanks for the advise guys. I ran it up with no pulley as it only take a minute or so to leak and she wet herself from the lower dowl on the chain cover. Cover off then found the last guys lock tighted the metal bush behind the bottom pulley so had a bit of a fight but done away with the cork gasket resealed and replaced the front main oil seal and she is as dry as a pampers baby !! So that's her now rebuilt all good
New liners head gasket seals etc runs like a dream. Let's hope it stays that way.
