Hum....
In the interest of honesty I will point the following out-
Out of the 75 cars ive sold 316 is the only one ive had a problem with & incidentally the only car ive ever bought from in the trade-
At the time the car was due a service & cambelt- & on that occasion KTEC Racing had bought a car off me ( a monaco blue 172 for racing development )
The day before collection KTEC said they couldnt get a low loader up from bournemouth so could I drop the car off-
Striking a deal with them I took the 172 to KTEC & organised with david to get the belts done on 316 the following week at a slightly discounted price, again KTEC had/have a high reputation on all the clio forums, & the discount was against labour time not reduction of parts used-
I classed KTEC as a higher end specialist-
The belts were done & the following day a full 36 mile service was completed at Renault Orpington- again, this was suplimented by me-
Also pre sale I had the front end sprayed & all the grills recolourcoded black-
So, from being in an average condition vehicle presale I made it to A1 sale standard, I also paid £500 to SG Motorsport before selling for new front disks & pads-
The car was fully checked over & apart from the usual little nicks etc the only issue identified was the A/C had no gas & was leaking from the unit on the undertray which was a common problem & scott said it would be ~ £200 to complete-
Because the time was short the car was discounted this price & sold as A1 condition barring the A/C-
4 weeks later whilst in Belgium the belts snapped on the new owner- he had it towed back to Renault Orpington & asked me to sort it out- The owner was a bit 'unhelpful', & initially KTEC were making noises to the tune that the warranty was invalid due to the car being sold-
So, I took the decision to pay £460 to Renault Orpington ( I still have the reciept ) to strip the down to diagnose the problem,KTEC was unhappy about this, however to this day I still feel I made the right decision-
Renault diagnosed a poorly tightened Central Idler pulley
Ive have just gone through my email
can be taken through him-
SENIOR RENAULT MASTER TECH PHIL MOULDER
REPORT: Stripped out timing belt covers & interior to investigate reason for timing belt Snapped.
Found Timing belt to be completely shredded ( unable to determine if new belt fitted) found alternator belt was old.
Found top idler pulley between the heads retaining bolt hanging out & idler loose-
Extensive damage to timing cases-
Would reccomend replacement engine, unable to determine if lower engine damaged-" UNQUOTE
After this the Clio was trailored to KTEC where they replaced / repaired the car to a standard that was acceptable to them & the new owner-
I cant remember what the mileage was when I sold it, however the owner has had it for 2 years & I am guessing done over 10k ish, so its certainly been repaired fine & has been ok since- which ultimatly was my aim in the first place- as is my aim in any selling any car-
I am glad however I paid renault for that strip down-
I believe the car is now being sold by a dealer- maybe on behalf of the old owner- whether its worth that price is debatable-
however at least you have some coverage of the history

Hi Steve,
OK, our usual cost for the services are as follows:
Clio V6 supply and fit cambelt kit £545+vat
Supply and fit water pump at the same time as changing the cambelt £118+vat
Total of £663+vat which is £762.45.
To you we could do this for £560 all in and we would need the car for nearly a full day.
Let me know what you would like to do.
Best regards,
David Kirk
