Newbie, and clutch fitting problems with ratchet!!

hi guys im new here so a big hello to all of you, nice to have decent people with renault knowledge, right so i have followed the replacing clutch cable method and here is where i am and the problem i am now facing, the problem iv come across, both ends are now connected and are ready for tension BUT the ratchet piece with teeth that the cable lies in will move when you put feet on the pedal but wont return, iv noticed a white piece above it but is it supposed to be attached to it?? hence no tension and the fact that it wont return, i cant complete the job without the piece being sorted and i hope someone can understand what im trying to explain cause its difficult,

I take it your on about the clutch pedal assembly..

Fucking hell of a job tbh lol..

If your pressing it down and it wont return, im guessing you anit got the cable attached right, which end im unsure of ( pedal / box ).

1) Make sure you route it propely..E.G when you take the old one off, you must make sure you remember the way it came of...

2) Routing it correctly around the bay. Definalty connected the box end ?

3) You have got to set the pedal assembly up once all the connected. iirc you got to ( 2 man job ) push the clutch down, once the gearbox fork has moved, stick a rachet for instance to stop it moving back to original position, then let go of the pedal, This should of reset the pedal. If im wrong in explaining it, try the same sort of method but mix it around a little, im going of what i can remember, so dont count on it being right...!

Just dont forget to remove the extension bar if you us one..!

mate iv got it all connected now, im sure its layed right in the engine as there is really only 1 way, the pedal returns now but really there is not alot of tension in the cable and as far as i can see the fork does not move as there is not a great deal of tension, also i cant get the new grommet fully through the hole in the foot well

The grommet does go through, bit of a basterd ive always found..

I know that theres only 1 way to route the cable, but ive seen one where it goes past the cambelt cover, past the rad and that way...! believe it or not lol..

Is this a genuine cable ?

Maybe the bush on the pivot fork ( box )

Or im mutha-fooking stumped...

surely i thought others on here would of helped by now..!

renig if youre having to use 2 people to set the ratchet, youre doing it wrong.

If its fitted right you just connect it up, press the pedal a couple of times and it self adjusts, job done. That's the whole point.

You got the internal spring in place in the pedal spingit1982?

Got the cable running through the little loop on the back of the pedal?

No not really, one to press the clutch pedal, the other to hold the fork to set the rachet...

way i did it anyway..worked a bundle

how ode that set the ratchet on any renault?

the ratchet sets itself right away

if you wqant to reset it pull the arms down with a couple of fingers and then let it go

Is the ratchet stripped? You shouldn't need to do anything with it when doing the cable. Just press the pedal a couple of times and it will self-adjust for cable length.

The ratchet needs changing every now and again as the teeth and the bushes wear. Its not hard, just fiddley.

Hint: Take the clip off the left side of the pedal, slide the bar across an inch or so, assemble the padal without the spring, and slide it back onto the pedal shaft. Slide the shaft back, put the clip back on. Make sure the clip is on properly, it sometimes only goes on one side because of the spring washer! Check and double check or it will fall apart when your are driving and the brake pedal is on the shaft too! Hook spring back on, and use something to stretch it down and hook it onto the pedal.
