New stuff being fitted!

I'm liking the brakes but (and I'm not trying to rain on your parade)...

Seems a few people are going around upgrading the brakes and I'm wondering if I just got lucky with mine.

Even before I removed the weight out of my car I did approx 10 track days and never once had brake fade or found them wanting - I was consistently out-braking people (in fact it was one of the few ways I could catch people before I sorted out new suspension etc).

I did go down the braided brakes lines, different fluid and different pad compounds.

Then the car had the weight stripped out of it which is clearly going to make a difference but it then went into our hire fleet where it was constantly abused by a range of drivers from monkeys to "driving gods" and whilst compliants about tricky handling, lack of absolute grunt etc were common no one ever moaned about the brakes.

I did 2 Don Palmer sessions in the car (again before the weight was removed) and whilst Don was not particularly keen on its on the limit manners he was very positive about the braking even making the bold claim that he felt they were some of the most progressive brakes he had experienced on a production car.

Of course brakes can be a very personal thing - some people like binary brakes others prefer a more progressive feel but I'd be interested to hear what it is that is driving people to look to upgrade the standard ones.

Having said all that, Peter, they do look pretty dam good :-)

Maybe its just me but I always err on the side of caution with a road car in which you:

a) intend to track
b) intend to upgrade in power

Too often people forget power is nothing without good brakes (suspension is the same, as you are well aware). As you know braking later gains you the same advantage as accelerating harder!

I have had a few previous cars which i have modded to the point where the brakes stuggle. I have already upgraded the power of my car and have plans for more (fabricated inlet manifold and custom remap). As such an upgrade seemed a worthwhile addition.

I also hate the prices I pay for the std items. An upgrade to rid me of the annoyance of being fleeced for Renault OEM discs was a very nice idea!

It also looks bling!

That all looks sweet dude :) What size are the brakes now?

How much are discs alone now if you don't mind me asking?

Discs are: 2x 330mmx28 6 groove disc + 2x bells ~£500 (inc dreaded) But you need new calipers to fit over them!

No bigger than std, but MUCH more effective, and fade resistant!

I have a feeling I'm gonna need front pads at least soon. Gonna have me some EBC Yellowstuff I think to start with. Was considering that setup K-Tec do with grooved discs and carbon lorraine pads - but I'm not tuning the Vee, I just like *GOOD* brakes and let's face it, grooves look cool :p

Peter both the seats & brakes look spot on fitted bud - excellent stuff :D

Wow - seats and brakes look fantastic Peter. Bugger - I knew buying one of these cars was going to be bad for my bank balance!

Yeah I have been thinkign about that too.

I think you may be correct. :(

Not sure of colour for some mats too! [smilie=doubt.gif]

Smaller "OEM look" wheel is next!

Not for a moment. They look superb! ;)

I am SOOOO glad I chose the colour! It lifts the drab interior perfectly. [smilie=cool.gif]
