New Member - No Clio!

Hello all,

Just introducing myself as a new club member. As per the username I'm currently "sans clio" but plans are afoot to change that. I registered on here several years ago (when i should have bought a V6!!!) and have now returned to find values have doubled/tripled like many other modern classics. Not one to be deterred, I'm seeking a good Ph2 and am holding out for the right car, either ID colour, low miles, etc.

Would like take this chance to say a big thanks to Duncan Powell and Leigh Tann for the advice they've given me on finding the right car and putting up with my endless questions! Can also vouch for Leigh's work having seen what he's achieved on his Ph2 car and can honestly say the quality and attention to detail of his work is second to none.

Been into cars for as long as I can remember. I do like my Jap stuff. Currently have some rare species in the garage, a 1972 Mazda Rx3 Coupe (rotary engine, one of only 11 left in the UK), a 1988 Toyota Hilux (tow rig), and a 1991 Eunos Cosmo 20B Twin Turbo (rotary, only a handful imported to the UK). I guess I just like tracking down spare parts haha.

My other passions are jet boats and circuit racing. I'm just preparing for my 3rd season of racing in the Dunlop Mini 7 Championship. It's an excellent series and very close racing. Regularly have 40+ cars on the grid.

So between cars and boats I make sure my account balance is fully cleared each month!

Looking forward to V6 ownership and meeting some other cars and owners.

Thank you Dom,

I’m sure you will find the right car and it will be going to a good home as you have wanted for a very long time. It is a buyers market so have a good look around and do your homework ;)

Get a wanted ad up and I’m sure sellers will be in touch.

Get in touch anytime soon and good luck, nice meeting you :approve:

Regards
Leigh

Top award for username of the year so far.

Would only have been bettered if prefixed with :

Sorry I

p.s. :welcome:

Cheers fellas.

Noyzboy, I recognise that username. Are you on MRC? FDUK? Yes have definitely got the rotary bug. The cosmo is awesome and has major presence on the road. Haven't had an FD yet but its on the list. I'm in Bristol. Rx3 should be on the road this summer. Always up for meeting up with fellow rotorheads.

Ben, the only problem with the username is i'll have to change it when I find a car haha.

Welcome,

Did someone say 20B!?! Hmmm, the sound of a turbo'd 20b is right up there as one of my favourite engine sounds of all time.

I used to own a very tasty black, Bathurst edition FD on BBS LM's. Such a horny car! :)

The Rex gave me the jap bug which led onto a near 600BHP R32 GTR which was on another level in terms of performance and ability.

The clio is slow, but it offers a level of involvement and theatre that I don't believe can be beaten for the money.

Good luck with your search. ;)

Welcome aboard.

A nice collection you have there. :approve:

Fully appreciate Mazda's efforts over the years, including the little MX-5 (Eunos Roadster) - my wife has an RS-Limited - she loves them, and must admit I too was a bit smitten driving it.

Good luck with the hunt.

The long term plan is to fit a single turbo to the 20B as the stock twins are very restrictive, but its around 10grand for the conversions once you've factored in everything else that's needed. They do sound great, must be to do with the harmonics in the exhaust with 3 rotors and each rotor having 3 sides.

Bathurst FD, nice. A skyline would be another dream garage car, but the V6 has always been on the list. Ticks all the boxes for me. Impractical, challenging to drive, stunning looks, great sound, super rare.

Thanks Dulan, the Rx3 is probably a keeper. Done so much work on it. It has the original 10A engine that I've completely rebuilt. Full Bridgeport, Weber 48IDA, dynamically balanced, Rx7 stationary gears, oil system mods etc etc. Will be going on the dyno soon, am hoping for at least 160hp from the 982cc "small block".

The mx5 is a good little car. My sis had a Mk1. From what I hear the latest one is becoming a big hit too.

Sh1t the bed, HaventgotaClio is deffo the best username I've seen for a specific car forum, so well done on that front.[ref=#000000]Noyzboy[/ref], I've referenced Noyzboy in the hope that will give him a poke to respond.

Hope you can find a car soon.

Martin

Thats an awsome collection! The Cosmo is such an unknown car by all accounts. Mazda should have put that engine in the RX7 from day dot!
Nice to see another Mini owner on board. I also have a 999cc racer which I hope to compete in the Brands Hatch mini festival and would be over the moon if it made the invitation class.

Welcome to the forum

Having viewed several cars I've put a deposit down on David's (ravydavy's) Illiad Blue Ph2 a couple of weeks ago. It was the first of several cars I viewed, but having subsequently driven to almost all corners of the country to look at others it was clear his had been extremely well looked after and had one of the best history files I've seen for any car which was an important consideration for me. Wasn't exactly local! 600 miles in a day to view a car is a new personal record :race: Hoping to fly up from Bristol to collect in early Feb.

Many thanks to Simon Hope for his buying advice and general V6 info.

Martin, thanks for the welcome. I'll hold back on changing my username to "haveaclio" as that remains not the case!

Brett, I can have a chat with the club about running your car at Brands. I'm not familiar with the rules for invitation class but provided it's fitted with all the necessary safety gear then should be straightforward.

The cage will be nothing like modern Migs and Severns so I'd naturaly think it won't be allowed. Its a VERY oldskool 970S 8 port so the less busy grid of Worlds Fastest Mini will be a little better I think! Lol . My good friend Jon Lee will be racing in an identicle looking car albeit a bang up to date Mig.
