NEW DISCS FITTED

Spike

New Member
Finally got my new front discs fitted that were made by APEC for the ph2.
as you all probably remember these were made to a request by another forum member as a cheaper alternative to reno stupid prices, have had them a few months now but only just got aroundtuit.
fitting was easy, they fit perfectly and feel just as good if not better than the std ones. i have gone for EBC "red stuff" pads and the whole job was less than £200, BARGAIN!
will let them bed in for a few miles, poss 50 or so, and report back. (about a years worth of miles at my rate).
one point i have made in a post before. caliper guide plates were corroded up to feck. bolts a nightmare to get out, if a main dealer had done this i wonder if they would bother taking these out to de-corrode?? it took me about 3 hours just to get the screws out! this is the second set i have seen in this state and both are quite low milage. steve, i need some screws, where did you get em????????

Spike you're right, I wonder how many pad changes get done without removing the plates, an essential part of the job ! Probably a good idea to have a spare set of screws on hand before starting.
I have heard of the pad backplates being filed down to get them to fit ! ( I think I read it on here ? )
I think the wear plates are available from AP not sure about the screws.

Thanks for he support, yes i also read about a set of pads being ground to get them to fit, it was on here [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
i cannot see any dealer doing this job as a matter of course, just goes to show that self maintenance is a good idea even if only on a basic level, and a bundle of paperwork doesn't always mean everythings been done right.

Did you get the discs directly from Apec and do you have the part numbers
PART NO IS: DSK 2779, two of.
these are available from most major motor factors. if you have a problem ordering, i can get them for you and will be happy to post them on.

Spike, what's the difference between the APEC codes listed for the Clio v6? 2779 that you have fitted are 310mm and 2552 are 330mm

is one code for front discs and one for rear?

i have got no idea what you are on about, my disks are dsk 2779, 330mm, for a reno v6, where have you got that info from? please let me know and i will feed this back.
there has been a lot of confusion about disks for these, mainly from idiotic ebay sellers that havent got a clue and dont give a toss, or motor factors that are giving the wrong info out because the book is out of date, these ar a NEW product.
mine fit great, if you want some i can get them, they will fit and are 330mm.
if you still doubt me go to apecs web site.
james, did we not go through all this before? what was the outcome? did the early ph1 cars actually have smaller discs??

sorry Spike, my mistake, I got it the wrong way round. This info was off the Apec website. part number 2779 -330mm and part number 2559 -310mm

thanks
Dan

the disc quoted as 310mm is wrong, this is where the confusion starts.

Spike all the info you need i hope

cheers

Steve

These retaining pins can be very rusty after a long period, I had to use a wire brush on a drill and tap them out a bit, then rotate them bit by bit and clean them all up before they would tap out though the other side of cailper, I have cleaned and painted them but there still not great, but for the cost of £1.77 each, I have brought some new ones.

You should think about these if you are looking to do the job in one go, I have read on the Cupra forum that some people have wrecked their pins getting them out.

2 sets of 4 x CP6600-109 pad pins are in stock at
