New car dealership paint protection...

Anybody who has brought a car over the last 15 years or so from a dealership would have been sold paint protection such as scotch guard, diamond brite, guardx etc. ...

Normally from £250-£400.... and its meant to protect the bodywork, interior, glass etc... and tbh it does a good job to the average car... I sure those who detail cars hate the stuff and would slag off... rightfully so, much better products out there.. .

But here's the thing... I got a car yesterday from a friend who works at the dealership. ...she said don't bother paying for it... I will give you the kit for free... result I thought... worth a try ..

Truth is.. The kit cost them £30... and takes an hour to apply... how the f*ck do dealerships get away with charging so much for it..

It's all very simple... clean car, dry car, wipe on stage one, buff with stage 2 (no heavy polishing, all by hand), spray interior with an can... allow to dry for 20 mins...
Wipe glass with liquid that drys within a min... simples...

No hard work, decent shine, interior protected, paint left with a thick protection layer on top...

Happy days.. you can buy kits on ebay for £20-30....

Not a bad result for 1 hours minimal work. ..

That's a decent buy for £50. The EP801 is a rotary polisher so be careful with heat build up. Especially on plastic panels.
Remember to start with the least aggressive pad and polish and work up only if you need to :)

Cheers scratcher.. will defo start of on lucys car to practice on.

I don't know why I assumed it was a DA, I think a DA is a better one to start learning with? will give it a go, if I don't feel confident will sell it on or put it away. :)

It might just be me, and no offence is intended, I know what these detailing people are like but...
If you replace your car every 2/3/4 years what's the point of paying for this treatment.
Who cares it's gone in a few years anyway. Give it a wash n polish if needed
Long term keeper maybe. We got offered in on our golf gti when we bought it.
Sold the car 6 months later. Vw wanted 600£ or something crazy.
F** off.

Same when you buy a couch or something too, "do you want the couch protected sir?"
No piss off it cost 500£. The cover you offer is 200£. If the couch self distrucks(?) I'll take it on the chin, now give me my couch you commision grabbing sales type person.

Scotchguard?

I just brought a focus and the dealer tried selling me the stuff, I said I had my hyundai 4 weeks, vectra for 2 months, the 5 for 6 months.... He said why not get it done for the next owner. ... to which I replied why don't you f*ck off.

Funny thing is the focus feels like a keeper.

Cheers scratcher.

Followed your advise on the wax. ;)

I know it's expensive. .. hopefully now I have got most of the big things out of the way... although wouldn't mind a paint depth gauge... will keep an eye out for one haha.

Got the snow foam etc for the car.

Engine bay stuff will be my next purchase... although I hate cleaning plastic

Nice haul!
Tough Coat is an amazing product.
Have a look at the video on the AF website for an easy "how to" video. The spray head makes it look like a spray and wipe product.

Cheers for the link.

I can't wait to try it out, my mum is getting a brand new car new week, I plan on giving it the works for her.

The focus don't really need it atm...
