My first coil.... (I think)

52 plate 25,000 and I am sure from what I've read that it is a coil, loss of power, emissions light flashing.

I have noticed it is a pretty easy job on a mk2 from a search I've done but can't find much on a mk1. Any ideas at a rough price fitted at the dealers? (I thought I would ask here first as after 3 phone calls to say they were busy call back later and another 2 leaving my number I am yet to even speak to someone in the service dept).

Right, if its easy-ish I'm going to give it a go myself, found some instructions on here on how to do it.

One more thing.. will it be a noticable difference in idleing when checking which one is gone??

Cheers any help really appreciated.

Doh! I sort of walked into that one. :s

Right 4 O'clock finish from work then home to get started. Might buy two whilst I'm down renault.

Any luck I'll be finished before the football tonight!

Thanks again.

8mm socket IIRC ;)

Peter :D

pop both engine covers off, remove the plasic engine cover which just pulls off (the bit that says 3.0L V6 on it) check the 3 coils at the front of the engine (closest to the front of the car) first, if its one of them you can change it and be done it 15 mins easy. If its not one of them the inlet manifold needs to come off.

I removed the full plastic engine cover for this to give me more room, then there are 2 M6 nuts at the back of the engine that just need to be loosened off not removed, then there are about 6 or 8 M5 bolts at the front of the manifold remove them and unclip the plastic cable tray off the front too. You should then be able to lift the manifold off far enough to get at the coils.

What i did was lift the manifold, disconnect the coil and re fit the manifold then test it. Didnt want to run the engine without the manifold properly fitted incase any fuel vapours sprayed out etc.. and repeated this process until i found which one was defunkt.

Shouldn't take you too long :)

Cheers thanks guys!!

Picked the coils up from Renault, got 2 just in case. Had the plastic v6 case off in about half hour and tested the first coil. Found I had two gone closest to the seats on either end. Lucky i bought two!! :D
Problem I had then, was when I started it up it was still idling a bit off and the emissions light was still flashing. My Inital thought was it can't be three!! Renault shut in half hour what do I do? straight in my other car rush through traffic and pick one up dead on closing time.

Get home start it up again leave it to idle and a minute or so later whilst I'm getting the sockets out its running sweet as a nut emission light out the lot. Me being a bit hasty I thinks....

Emissions were fine on the MOT but my depth judging eye must be out a bit, failed on tyres. Going to get some prices today. Renault wanted 165 each for Michelin.

Also as I was sitting in the service area waiting 2 182 drivers came in for a coil replacement. One was a lady and had only had the car since second April. Not a happy bunny.
