My Daily - Winter Protection

detailR

Well-Known Member
I finally got a day to give my own car some protection for winter... only a couple of months late 38.com_forums_public_style_emoticons_default_smile.webp

It hasn't been washed since The beginning of August when it was wearing a review panel batch of Auto Finesse Essence. The wax had held out pretty well and only really gave up around the beginning of November.

Onto the dirtiest my car has been in 4 years, haha.

This is the remains of the biggest bird bomb since records began.

Things were pretty grim!

Wheels up first.
I used AF Imperial and the yet to be released Wheel Soap.

Imperial applied and allowed to dwell for a few minutes.

Agitated with some brushes and the Wheel Soap solution. This adds extra lubrication while having a little more grunt than a regular shampoo.

Rinsed away easily. A few little bits to pick up on and they can be protected.

All the rubbers, nooks, crannies and what-not addressed using Verso and Envy brushes.

The whole car was then washed using Meg's D114.
Tar removed with ObliTARate.
Clayed and dried off to see how bad the paint is now (it doesn't get much attention these days).

So it's quite bad. I didn't have a lot of time to work on the car so a few choice products could mask the defects and make it appear much better until I manage to get enough time to machine it.

First up, Tripple. Worked fully by hand. (It's still present on the panels in these 2 shots. Fully broken down n38.com_forums_public_style_emoticons_default_wink.webp )

It helped to nip out some wash marring, and the fillers done a decent job of masking the worst of the swirling.

But I wanted more.... so out came Ultra Glaze.

It's getting there now 38.com_forums_public_style_emoticons_default_smile.webp

Then onto some protection. I opted for Tough Coat topped with Desire.

Tough coat has a new trick. Here it is curing on satin painted mirror housing. Once buffed off it didn't affect the hue 38.com_forums_public_style_emoticons_default_smile.webp I've been testing it out for a while, but try an inconspicuous spot first if you're going for it.

An hour or so later Desire was then applied and allowed to cure while I cleaned the glass.
Removed the wax residue, dressed the tyres and it was all set for winter 38.com_forums_public_style_emoticons_default_smile.webp

Thanks for reading. It wasn't very exciting.

I just can't even understand the mindset that puts this much work into cleaning. I don't "get" it lol

But then, i guess thats good because it means you guys make a living out of people like me :D
