Megane mk3 Brembos on mk2

Have a really good offer for a set of these and I am very tempted to buy them as a cheap upgrade on my R26. From what I can gather (pretty much guesswork) these can be a straight swap with some bigger discs and will fit under the mk2 alloys.

Has anyone know any more information on anyone that has done this before?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade for a bigger pad area and compatibility with bigger discs?

I have a set of disks (done 200 miles from new) and calipers that are from a Meg 250 cup along with braded lines in Red and slightly used XP8 fast road and track pads up for grabs

So its just a case of a bigger set of discs then ? No caliper differences ? TBH I never found the r26 callipers lacking in either braking feel , or too much fade.

What are you wanting to achieve from the 250 swap?

The 250 calipers offer a larger pad so in effect more braking area along with the larger disc.

Seems like a cheap option for a brake upgrade, although I agree that the standard brakes haven't shown any brake fade or are struggling to stop the car. That said, more brake retardation has to be better (within reason)!

@Ewan Sorry just seen this...

I can put you in touch with a chap that has done this if you like?

Its the Orange caged black R26 you may of seen pictures of before...

Its some kind of custom hanger thats required for the mk3 caliper to sit on - then you'd be able to either run 250 Cup grooved discs, or a 330mm rotor if you wanted.

On a side note, I'm really not getting on too well with the plain HC Brembo's, they are overheating at the end of a stomp on the brakes and don't really have stopping power towards the end of a big braking zone - I've been looking into just getting the 312mm grooved Tarox discs to try - they are 230 or so tho, but I think the grooves act like a cheese grater and get the most out of the pads...

I thought it would only need a spacer to fit them on the mk2 hub, but it would be good if you could put me onto the guy who made the custom hanger.

Grooved discs should help dispel the gases that build up from heavy braking which lead to the heating. Potentially better for heat control than plain discs. Might be worth looking into larger discs for improved heat control with braking. Principle being more brake retardation meaning less time on the brakes.

You can fit a spacer to the mk2 Brembos to fit a 330mm disc. Problem is the discs usually are 2-piece and are priced

What pads you running @papps? I had no issues with the HC brembo , just the usual bedding in

Its the same DS1.11, a fresh set for these discs, I'm comparing the performance with the HC's to the R26.R discs I had previously - maybe its in my head a bit as well, as the grooves used to give you a feel through the brake pedal, and also a very loud audible 'whurr' at the end of a big braking zone (you can actually hear it in my videos when I brake into the hairpin), maybe its my mind playing tricks as well ;)

Shame the R26.R ones crack lol, the Tarox ones may do the same, but the grooves in them look like they are well away from the edge of the discs, which should hopefully mean they are more robust.

Totally agree @Ewan , its about keeping the recurring wear & tear costs to a reasonable level so the car can always be in good condition. Don't fancy wearing out £500 2 piece discs twice a year lol

Yes mate :) - badge of honor maybe? lol

They were practically fully worn, (seen 4 2 hour and 2 4 hour trackdays) and rentec noted that they had hairline fractures coming out of the grooves. I had already made my mind up previously to go with the HC's given the value they offer, and with the discount on the DS1.11's and how long they lasted (same as the discs, but the pads had 30% life left actually) its a cheap way to have a really good braking set up all year round.

Will see how I get on with the discs tomorrow night
