Mk2 Subframe on a Mk1?

Dave Brown

New Member
Having just got around to sorting my subframe and cam belt etc my mechanic has taken the engine out to fit the subframe I bought last year only to tell me it's not the right one...great!

Therefore I am now looking for a decent MK1 subframe to replace the one I have.

Let me know if you can help or know someone who can, I was really looking forward to getting my car back on the road asap!

TIA

But my mechanic said it doesn't fit...I have not been able to see it yet to figure out why not as I bought it as a MK1 subframe.

Will a MK2 subframe work? Can anyone help me with a MK1 subframe?

Mk II sub-frames will work and will sort out some of the "hairy" handling issues with the Mk I.
If you're in a position where you need a replacement, you'd have to be nuts not to convert.
You might want to post up in the "technical discussion" section rather than the "wanted" section.

Is it just a direct swap or are there mods needed?

Does anyone have an image of the mk1 & mk2 subframe so I can compare to the one I have?

Right just found out it is a MK2 subframe, I thought it was MK1...

Can someone give me a few ideas on what we need to do to make the MK2 subframe fit my MK1 please?

i havent get my subframe on yet
i m still missing a wheel here, so i aint gonna put it on just yet, maybe 2 more weeks after my new shiny wheels came

but from what i heard from scott, it is a direct bolt on, so i guess it is best to give scott a call
then he may able to help you sort it out the problems

i have talked to scott bout the longer trailing arm, its also a good upgrade
its just a pity i cant find a good pair

but he said i can just do the subframe along with no problems also
