MK2 geometry settings...are they correct? (UPDATE!!!)

oatz

New Member
Having owned my 05 Mk2 Vee for just over 3 weeks now I have just managed to obtain/been emailed the geometry settings which the Renault garage used on my Vee (I specifically asked them to check this as part of the overall purchase/negotiation).
I have been emailed the following:

4 millimetres

Plus or Minus 1

Tow out.

Are these settings correct? As the car still feels quite skittish, having already checked the tyre pressures and I don't have a clue what these settings mean....?

Many, many thanks :thumright:

Ehhmmm, this is all you got??
What about rear toe, cambersettings front and rear?
Most skittish behaviour originates from bad rearsetup, not the front!!

Thanks Harry  I have emailed them with your questions and currently awaiting a reply..... Just out of interest do you happen to have the full/correct settings that I can send to them please?

Many thanks once again :thumright:

I'll post them tomorrow, I don't have them at hands now.
But don't be afraid to modify them to your liking.
F.I. I frive with a negative toe on front. Worked better for me, on the front more camber, the rear a bit more camber.
Go to a specialist, get a proper 4 wheel, allignment, if the car is skittish, check out the rear toe linkeage on play.
Also I had to replace one of the lower joints on the front due to play.

If everything is ok, get on a track, and go near and over the limits of grip. Note down everything you don't like, corner entry behaviour, stable turns, out of corner acceleration, straightline stability.
With your remarks, a good specialist can adjust your suspension more to your needs. With adjustable shocks, you can even tune it more offcourse.
Also the mods should be within reason, because f.i. a 4 degree camber will wear out your tires in no time, but give good grip in corners.

Thanks for the info Harry. I thought the camber could not be adjusted on a standard car? (255 MK2)
Are these the correct settings? (all information and commentary are taken from another post on here)

FRONT
Front Caster - +6degrees plus or Minus 30 minutes
Front Camber - Minus 45 minutes plus or minus 30 minutes

Pivot? - 13 degrees Plus or Minus 30 minutes
The above cannot be adjusted

Just set : Front Toe - minus 30 minutes (Plus or Minus 15 minutes)

REAR
Rear Camber - Minus 1 degree 30 minutes Plus or Minus 20 minutes
The above cannot be adjusted

Just set : Rear Toe - Plus 45 minutes (Plus or Minus 15 minutes.)

For Toe adjustment 1 turn = 1 degree. (6mm) - added from above

Figures:
Front -15min(L), -15min(R) (15+15=30 spot on)
Rear +20min(L), +21min(R) (20+21=41 near enough)

Harry...anyone....please confirm as I've got it booked in on Saturday (ater driving 100 miles) and need to give them the correct specs??

Many many thanks!

Sorry I forgot about it,
I'll put them up this evening, I don't have access to them now.
send me a PM with your email, then I sent you a printout.

Cool thanks for the info

Is the rear camber also adjustable? (I'm aware the front is)

Cheers all!

I sent it in the email to you Oatz.

The rear camber is also adjustable.

It can be a tough job to adjust the rear steering linkeage, mine was stuck quite a bit, I had to take them off completely and use a lot of WD40.

Top man! Cheers Harry and thanks for the advise on running toe in (as opposed to toe out) I presume you're refering to the rear? As the front toe in. Anyway, think I'll leave it standard as I don't like the idea of over more oversteer.... plus my Vee is standard in the suspension department etc (unilke yours)

UPDATE

Took my car to a have it’s alignment done today and what a nightmare it has become…. To cut a long story short I am now driving a cocking Nissan micra!

Basically I took my car to the specialist tuner/alignment garage (specialise in Audis and VW’s and are extremely good). When I arrived they happened to question whether it needed to have any weights fitted (as Porsches for example need this method before reading/adjusting).
So they basically called a friend of theirs in the business (who has aligned quite a few vee’s) and the response was yes, weights do need to be used and also a full tank of fuel needs to be present.
Unfortunately the alignment place didn’t have any weights but can get hold of some for next week.
Bugger I thought but never mind at least they will be able to do proper job of it. Just before they went to lower the car I happen to notice the inside edges of the front tyres are completely worn and I mean completely worn all the way down to the metal thread!!! (outside is perfect).

Basically the car is now back with the dealer (after driving from Brackley over to Oxford at 30 mph) I purchased it from and all because they couldn’t be bothered to align the vehicle properly in the first place! Then fob me off for the past 3 weeks (after they cocked up the tracking in the first place) and I am stuck with a friggin Micra for the week….. Am still in a good mind to reject the car and get a full refund! (sales of goods act et al)

I know that Gordon had new tyres 2000 miles ago and I have only driven 600 miles since picking the car up. I am not at all happy and now my weekend has been ruined (where’s that bottle of absynthe?)

Vees naturally scrub the insides of the fronts off ... side effect of the toe they run ... but not that much .

NO, I meant the FRONT. Normally the front has Toe out, there for the excesive wear on the inside tyres.
With toe in on front you induce oversteer a bit more, and on the rear you don't want to run toe out, believe me!!!

And according to the Renault specs, the measurements should be performed EMPTY!!!!
Look at the jpg I sent you, VIDE means EMPTY.

I believe you Harry....I've tried it when someone misread the settings........

You accelerate hard and then lift off and the back starts wandering left and right as if it has a mind of it's own....
Very scary!!!

Thanks guys for clarifying.
I can't believe the stealers bullshited me just to save a couple of quid and endanger my life! Thank God I noticed this today or I may not be here now to type this.... I take back all I said about Crossroads Renault in Kidlington (complete rubbish) and no apology just bull$hit lies and lame excuses. I even had to ring round tyre centres trying to find two front tyres (sat in the Sales Managers desk using his phone and intrenet whilst he was lazing in the seat designated for customers)! My advise would be to avoid like the plague!!

Oh and I'll post my geo. later just for a laugh (all over the shop)

As promissed, the actual readings......:
