Clio Mk2 Clio RF Fob

Picked up a cheap Clio 1.2 for my OH. Advertised with 2 keys, came with 2 keys, great I thought.

However it seems one is for the ign, one is for the door locks! Not only that but the ign key doesn't lock/unlock the doors on the plip of the fob (battery was flat, but replaced and still no dice). Door key is solid, non plip.....didnt check it till I got back so didnt notice.

Door key doesnt fit the ign barrel, ign key doesnt fit the door lock. Also, actuating the door lock does NOT activate the C/L, I believe this is by design though. The C/L button in the dash does work though and all 5 doors lock/unlock on that.

Question- Lets assume worst case the ign barrel has been changed and the key isn't for the original RF receiver what steps can I take in getting a new plip key for the car, OR getting a replacement/reprogrammed unit? With the door locks not tripping the C/L by design, without the plip, getting in and out is going to be a right pain. I'd like to get it sorted while i'm MOTing it before she needs it in early December.

Depending on which version of plip and receiver....
You could try : Press and hold the central locking button down and hold it down until you hear the locks cycle, then press the plip button. If the plip is accepted by the car you will have a working plip.
Otherwise its a trip to Renault to get a coded plip and flop the blade of the old key into the new plip.
The clio 2 used to suffer from the buttons coming loose inside the key, you can re solder them on if you have a steady hand.

Tried the CL trick but its an RF key not IR so it didnt work

The car still starts so the key must be right for the immobiliser so will try having a mess around with the UCH unit before replacing the lot.
