Can those, if any who know whats needed to do a 172 widetrack conversion on a mk1 clio list whats needed and any issues you have come up against.

What @Woznaldo said really @Mark_L iirc the clio williams version had some extra playes welded on the bottom to add some extra rigidity but would say no great effort to beef up the 5 one
Didn’t know if there was a difference in them being wider? If they’re the same I’ll just get another 5 one.

May find a 172 lower arm as a starting point.

How much wider are they with the wide track fitted?
Clio slightly different iirc, i think the 16v/williams has a bush on one of the subframe mounts? Been years since ive worked on clio mk1 though. Can get a super5 subframe easy though mate, bit of seam welding and plate the bottom and it will be solid.

Other option is to make a tubular one up, with rose jointed track control arms. Be miles better.
I’m toying with the idea. Using 197 hubs, machining them down 6mm off the calipers mount to take 300mm discs. I have a set of Lotus Elise/Exige Gaz golds for mock up.

I’m just not clued up in the 5’s yet. Not that it’s going to be anywhere near std.

I need to get the shell stripped down and start Cutting..

Wishbones and arb wider on 16v and wider still on williams cant remember measurments mind but easy to check

Never played with the 172 wishbones etc but they are even woder but not sure if tweak needed to fit r5/clio subframe

Pic of Tony Hart's setup. Looks pukka
It would be interesting to see if Tony Harts has tweaked the pickup points at all? Tis a sweet setup. I’ve got a 172 setup, together with Roll-Centre Correction to go on my 5. Not sure what I’m going to do for driveshafts? Probably custom and that is not going to be cheap!!!

I bought a welding table big enough to fit a subframe on to go tubular at some point. I’ll strengthen the std subframe, make a jig, and go from there.

With all the spare time on my hands, I should be done in early 2050?…
