Mint Quadra Gearbox

M

Messcort mk2

Looking for a mint quadra gearbox with no syncro crunching or leaks.

:icon_biggrin: That would be on the shelf under the hens teeth next to the sacks of rocking horse sh*te :icon_wink:

My old mate stu harding rebuilds these whilst sleeping cosily in bed at night....

I think he could offer an exchange rebuilt box or do you need an additional one?

Well the car is my transport at the moment so probably not an option as I don't have anything else to drive.

They're an EPIC task to change as well. If you speak to Stu he might do you exchange in lieu, otherwise you need to buy a box and get it rebuilt by the sounds of it.

Can be changed in a day if you know what your doing, and nothing goes wrong.

If your speak to stu i'm sure he would be willing help.

Yes it can indeed, I think we did it in under 7 hours, but the sheer weight of the god damn thing is unreal. We did engine out- box out- box in- engine in to make life easier doing it on stands.

Have the advantage of a car ramp and gearbox jack though. Is it just the weight of it that makes it time consuming? Why else is it any different to any other gearbox change?

It's mainly the weight of the bloody thing i.e it takes two people to lift one.

After that its all the bolts thaty need removing to get it out, if one or two of the little sods start playing up it all adds up.

Then its getting the correct parts to put it back together if some of them are wrong, then its a couple of days to try and get the correct ones from renault.

I would take it to some one who knows the cars inside out. Dave sibly, Stu Harding, Andy Rabson, Craig Righton, Lee Alison, and some time's me.

Dave, stu and Lee are all experts at changing engines and gearboxs. Lee having the advantage of a 2 post lift and gear box jack.

Stu having the advantage of being a renault mechanic and rebuilder of gear boxs.

Dave, just because if you cut him in half he says "renault 21 turbo" like a stick of rock.( also he is a mine of usless info on these cars).

I hope that helps.
