Megane immobiliser

As my renault 19td is looking fu**ed. I might have the chance of picking up a megane for cheap. I think it's got an immobiliser problem, can the immobiliser be bypassed or is it easy replaced?

S Reg Megan, don't know model yet I'm pickin it up tonight. Car has trouble starting sometimes when battery good and has fuel. Usually starts eventually.

indeed, doesn't sound like an immob problem at all. Let us know what it is though, by what irt is I mean 1.4 petrol. 2l 16V etc as that will help narrow it down.

Howdy, Just picked the car up. Megane 1.4e liberte S reg. Started ok after a couple of turns. It hadn't been started in over a week. Annoying ticking constantly from a relay somewhere, as far as I know the car has always had the ticking prob. Blowy exhaust but apart from that seems ok for £100

the ticking may be the heater re-circ motor, if its ac plug inside the car, if not in the scuttle.

I dunno what you mean AC? How do I know. Where is the Scuttle? The ticking sounds like a relay constantly working, like an indicator.

ac - air conditioning, if its a 1.4 its doubtfull.

Like i said the recirc motor will be causing the click, dissconnect it

scuttles the area under the windscreen under the plastic covers, where the battery lives.

What you doing with the td?

Thinkin about it i'd like to get my td fixed but at the mo its a pain. i've got to work and need the car to commute. the td seems a higher spec car although it's older the engine is good when its running and its pokey for a diesel, a good workhorse.

R u workin out a garage? The car will run with a cable from the battery to the fuel cut off. So with a full battery charge, during the day with no rain it should make braehead nae bother. It would be a shame to see the car scrapped, its a bit shabby but the engines good when its runnin.

work for myself matey.

If you want credentials look around the forum or ask people, I do a lot of work for people on here and other forums. Current work is u33db's 5 RSi conversion which is in the project report section.

So is the alternator playing up as well then?

I dont need credentials. I've had a good look round the forum, you seem to be the dude here. I took the car to a garage who told me it was the altenator so I picked one up and fitted it. It was a heavier alternator than the original which wasn't too much of a problem. there was an insert on the back flange of the new alternator which i tried to knock out. Being a cast alternator I thought your goin tae break it so I used the nut and bolt with a spacer to pull the insert out and yep, I broke the flange. I fitted the altenator anyway it seems solid but it didn't solve ma problem.

The old alternator wasn't charging the battery. With the new alernator fitted the battery reads 12.6v while the engine is running. But I just canny get 12v tae this yellow wire that feeds the cut off valve. I dont know if its the alernator or something else taking the voltage away.

should be getting more than 12.6 at the battery, should be 13.5 - 14.2 at idle at the battery no load.

does the battery light go off ok?
