Megane conversion

Neal, it only rusted on the one rear quarter cos it wasn't resealed correctly. when i stripped it you could see that at some time in its life that it had a quarter panel and was missing a fair bit of sealnt along the arch front lip. i was going to replace it until the tourer came along and its not like Ph1's dont rust either so don't believe the hype.

True, the ph2 does suffer much more than the ph1 on it rear arches but thats cos no-one ever removes the arch liners and cleans em out. the ph1 doesnt have em so doesn't suffer but we did ours all the time which i think kept it as solid as it was in the sills and arch.

What's this about arch liners? :?

um yeah, isn't that the other way round? I might be wrong but I'm sure my p1 had them and the p2 didn't.

ive never seen a ph1 OR a ph2 with rear arch liners (apart from the bits that close off the bumper) but that doesnt mean they dont exist. Id just like to see them.

Every Ph1 19 i've seen has sealant/mastic applied protecting the front inner rear arches around the torsion bar bearings. They do have a plastic liner to the rear of the rear arches to stop crap building up around the rear bumper. The Ph2 doesn't have the sealnt and instead has a full plastic liner that fixes all the way around the inner arch and screws to the back of the side skirts and the bumper mounts.

Great in theory but the rear sunroof drains to these areas and over time silt and other road crap finds it was in and causes the rot to set in. If these are cleaned out regularly the problem doesn't arise but if left unchecked you end up with a serious amount of sedement back there... Pete T & Chunk will know what i'm on about.

I need to see a photo of this, cant picture it. This is all news to me :?

I can't lay my hands on the fronts as they're at the back of the garage and its dark, scarey and wet back there with mutant spiders n'shit. The rear units were in the boot though so here they are:

No Chris, they're from the rear I promise you cos the Fronts peg thru to the inner arch and tops. They're also wider on the front.

if thats a rear liner I'll come down and give you a gobble.

The only rear liners any 19 got werethe little 1/4 jobs as Neal already said.

You're right - I admit defeat. I've just found a shot of the rear arch and it doens't have a liner there... I've obviously been smoking crack cocain but thanks for the offer of a gobble anyhow Chris
