Megane Meg 225 double press button to start or stop

Bit of a weird one - does anyone know in what situation you need to press the start button twice to get the car to start?

Reason for asking is I have the engine in my 19 and I have to press the button twice with a slight pause, so not like a double click, to start or stop the engine.

First press does nothing, second press starts or stops as normal.

Obviously I no longer have the megane dash cluster connected so I don't know if it would be telling me something on the display.

I'm pretty sure the megane started with a single press and I think the engine started with a single press when I first put it in (before cutting away most of the loom)

I can't remember if I have the clutch switches still connected, this was my first thought too.

Hang on, thinking about it...

If you had key in the keycard slot , and pressed the button without the foot on brake it would action the ignition.
If you then put foot on brake it would start.

If you had foot on brake it would start first button press.

Is it a new fault? How did you wire in the ign setup? Is it expecting clutch down also?

I just have the wires from the original start button wired up to 'up' on the central locking rocker switch.

Thinking about it, I think I left the top out clutch switch in place so it would see the clutch as always down as I anticipated that I wouldn't be able to get it to start without it.

That reminds me now my old espace with card in single press would make ign live and take steering lock off but had to hold brake pedal down and press to start

If you press and hold does it start?

On my 225 phase 2 if you put the card in and press the start button with the clutch or brake pressed it puts the ignition on and starts the car all in one action.
If you hold the button down without the pedals pressed for 8 seconds its puts the ignition on only
if you pull the card out with it running you have to double press the button to stop the engine.

Maybe its doing it as a safety precaution as its not seeing any change with your brake or clutch pedals so you have to press it twice to confirm that's what you actually want to do?!
