ME STARTERS GONE!

I think I've just joined the "starter motor knackered after being laid up for 5 years" club. At first I thought it was the battery not taking on enough charge, but new battery and overnight charge still produced nothing more than a loud "click" from the engine area. Thing is, I'm in Italy where a V6 is rather less common than the proverbial rocking horse excrement, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to get this fixed. I understand the same engine can be found in other cars such as the Aventis (and even a Peugeot taxi common in Paris?) so this might give my tame local mechanic a starting point. He has a ramp so access from below should be OK but is there any other info I can help him with, and anything else I should change or service whilst it's up on the ramp (yes cam belt should be changed on the "5 year" principle, but it's only done 800 miles since the last one and I suspect this might be a risk too far for a local spanner man who normally deals with rusting Fiats). Any advice gratefully received.

Loads of threads on here relating to starters, most important thing to be aware of is the difference between bolted and bonded magnets, avoid bonded like the plague :approve:
