manual steering conversion

i got a steering coloum (non adjustable - does that matter? can i set it at the lowest of the 16v normally goes to and leave it at that)

then all else i need is the manual rack (brand new £60 sent on ebay) says square pinion though (i dont no what my coloum is though - prolly is the same )

and then 16v track rod ends?

then just remove the pump and pipes, fit a smaller aux belt and thats it job done yea?

cheers :renault:

you need the GTX/volvo alternator brackets.

all TREs are the same so like Tom says, you just have them set further out on the manual rack

get some bodged together brackets (y) check

just wondered about the TREs (hope its all long enough!!)

just need to find out about where it would be set cause up in the air just wont do

i will do a techy thing if you want it (i doubt many people want to ditch PAS though)

On the Clios you've got to swap the column aswell, as the union to the rack is about 2-3" offset.
I would imagine its the same on the 19.

Belt you need is 1008 6pk iirc.

i got a manual coloum already mate, just its a fixed one i think not height adjustable

though i dont even no if there is height adjustable non power steering coloums out there i wana no if i can set this one to the lowest point the 16v would do (ie on ya knees)

I can't remember who but I think someone once posted that you can get adjustable manual columns but they are rare as!

Just go with it mate, you'll still be able to steer with your knees don't worry. And if you want to try it then see Baz's white one ;)

bit more power (like yea loads to be gained!! lol)

better feel

more sumat i wanted to do for ages (why i have the coloum)

if its shite i can change back cant i :D

you'll change it back in a few days.

Also why do you ruin the car with the wheel at the lowest height?

The manual column non adjustable ones have it at the highest settign where the joints are the least stressed and you know when the feel is best and mechanical alignment is also the best.

I've always found standard 16v feels better than non-PS with the same wheels

Then again, i do tend to drive mine on the road

I like the feel of non-pas on the clio's, though not tried on a 19.

I think you'll be fine on a road car, or track with kinda 7" semi-slicks and std diff.

The lsd in my sadev seq box and 8" slicks is making me opt for PAS (albeit electric pump) as after driving a similar spec clio, its FOOKIN heavy, way too heavy for my liking put it that way!
In all i think the std PAS system is very good, feels nice, plenty of feedback.
Personal preference i guess!

grippy lsd's are a mare though with no PAS always have been always will be.

Ok on kid on lsd's like in the rst;s etc.
