Whats the chance of you weighing the engine and gearbox Ed?

I can't believe how ****** heavy it is, just moving it around is a complete pain. Only chance of getting it weighed is putting it on the trailer and having it weighed on the way to the dump !

Realistically I can't see it getting weighed any time soon.

It is incredibly heavy isn't it!!! Especially how compact it is and the fact its an ally block. The block ive put in mine is supposed to be 75kg lighter somehow but am trying to find out for sure. It took 3 of us to lift my old L7X into my van but only 2 of us for the 4XV/VQ35 we have now put in the clio. I don't blame you for not wanting to move it around too much!

Imagine I will have to ditch the front luggage tray and hopefully get it down low in the front ??
Haven't had a chance to look yet. The engine still sits as in the photo above so no progress !

A little time today, split the gearbox from the engine and decided to dump the aircon and heater circuit, thought maybe I can 'T' off the main radiator pipes at the front for the heater ?

If you carry on ditching stuff you'll end up like this Ed

Ed, I think you should keep the a/c mate. Nothing worse than driving a car on a lovely day only for your bollocks to swim in sweat. Usually opening the window in a car works but as we all know, if you do that in a vee it only makes matters worse with the engine heat wafting over your shoulder.
Regarding the heater, I thought they were tee'd at the front? I might be wrong though. You could always dump the heavy heater matrix and fit a small electric one in its place maybe?

Brett i think you may well be right in that the heater is tee'd at the front, it was a bit cold yesterday and my brain stopped working. It's the oil cooler pipe work thats going !
I intended to keep the air con rad, pipes etc. so i had an easy option to reinstate it at a later date but keep changing my mind. If it's mainly for the track i don't need it but in the back of my mind i'm hoping it will turn out to be an ok road car as well in which case keeping cool is good. I'll just leave the compressor off for now and see how it goes.

Are you still keeping it water cooled or are you placing an air cooled one somewhere Ed? I've struggled to find a good spot for an air cooled cooler that is a) a good place for it to work and b) not to ugly to look at. I'm very fortunate in that the vq35 engine in mine shares much of the basic outlay as the L7X so all the original radiator and cooling pipe work will be kept. The only thing I will add is a flow and return line to cool the oil and maybe even PAS fluid.

Going air cooled was going to stuff it in a side pod or maybe even pick up some air from the undertray / diffuser. These are only ideas though, will be some time before it starts to go together. There will be a lot of 'little problems' along the way. I think the fuel tank is moving to the front now !

Get that car corner weighted Ed! Will be great to see the effects of a proper light weight project like this.
