Low pressure wiper washer issue or?

Hi,
I've had my car for almost five years, and since I'm in lockdown I was thinking of stuff to fix on the car.

I've always felt that the window washer pressure was very low. At 100 km/h it would barely spray any fluid onto the windscreen. It was just drizzling onto the lower part of the front windscreen.

I'm wondering if this is normal with our cars, or if there might be a problem with the wiper fluid pump or just the tubes could be clogged up?
I have tried to put a needle into the little nozzles to see if that helped, but it didn't.

Thank you so much for the help! Stay safe!

Hi ,
This is quite common. Unfortunately it’s the pump that’s the issue. The pump has a small check valve ( non return valve ) built onto the side of the pump body , over time the rubber in this valve swells and restricts flow when the pump is activated.

And it’s not that simple to replace the washer fluid pump. The whole wiper motor and arms assembly has to come out, through that narrow scuttle panel gap. Then the washer fluid reservoir can come out.

I couldn’t even disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector. It is pretty well stuck, so I gave up.

Buy a new pump, they're the same as any MK2 Clio so plentiful & cheap. Easy to fit if you have basic tools, otherwise a 30min job at the local garage.

You can strip the OE pump and trim the swollen rubber thing but it's a lot of messing about and for the price of a brand new pump, it's way easier.

So whilst fixing the issue I also saw this box. It looks like a GPS module. My car have been in Japan so I’m just wondering if this is something I can rip out or if there is something that is standard in our cars?

I’m sure that part of the standard tracker system fitted to all the v6 cars. It’s usually stuck with double sided tape or Velcro to the flat panel next to the pollen filter cover . (Area with worn white sticker in your pictures )

Thank you, then I wont remove it. I´ll just have to reglue it back to its original location.

Note the tracker you mention was only fitted to official UK import cars by Renault UK. As this car was Japanese I wouldnt of thought it would be the same.

Actually both my washer pumps failed this week. Mind you this is probably the first time they have been used in 15 months.
I initially believed it was due to a blockage as the motors were working but after a thorough clean out it was clear the pumps were at fault.
Getting access to the pumps looks a bit difficult at first but after removing the wiper arms and the black plastic cowling the wiper motor comes out with the removal of just three bolts. There is one bolt for the washer bottle and then you have access to the pumps. Don't forget to remember which pipe goes onto which outlet.
They work just like new now.

My car was originally sold to Italy and then at some point imported to Japan and now it's in Norway. So I don't think it was fitted with a GPS tracking system as the ones from the UK was pre installed with. Although that was a system installed after manufacturing as an additional service provided by Renault UK from what I've read.

The pump is ordered and I'll probably get it tomorrow and install it as well.

Windscreen and rear washer pump gone on mine too. For ref. part number is 7700430078 for the pump. Also seems to be the same as Citreon 24633.

Does anyone know if these pumps come with the rubber seal for the reservoir too - part number 7700431722 ?
