Hi all,
Got a card through the post today "Cambelt change from £199,99. I gave them a call for a quote on the Vee, the young lad on the other end of the line asked me what car it was for, once he found the price his first word was "wow". He then quoted me £1146.00 for the cam belt then said that because it was an 05 registration I would get a discount taking the cost down to £800.00. I then asked how much it would cost to have a new water punp fitted while the engine was out of the car - he then quoted £1400.00 stunned to silence for a few seconds I then asked why it cost £600.00 to supply and fit a water pump that only cost £37.00 he explained that it took 2 hours to remove the pipework that is on the engine at £88.00 pounds per hour labour. When I pointed out that the pipe work would already be removed to remove the engine to replace the cambelt he just said that he had spoken to the service manager who had informed him that lookers would have to have the car for 3 days which still did not explain why it was going to cost £201.00 per bolt (there are 3 on the water pump). Then when I asked how mush it would cost for the cam belt water pump and a new clutch he went silent then laughed then quoted £2100.00. Renault dealers are rip off merchants they seem to quote for each job as if the engine is to be removed and re fitted for the cam belt then removed and replaced for the water pump and the same for the clutch. There must be someone in the North Wales / Cheshire / Wirral area who can do this work. WARNING beware of rip off merchants.
