Loltus Exige

Well done - I love those kind of finds/fixes and sure you said nicer things to the car after 😅

I would look to sort the fuse/relay blocks before it lets you down when you have a fun track day booked......or other less than useful timing.

Would see alarm as a secondary to the core wiring issue.

I used to have all sorts of fun with vx220 relay and fuse blocks in corner of the boot......along with the slightly well known connector of doom.
Its on my list of things to do @Duncan Grier. I am starting to look at the electric schematics to see whats going on.

One thing I do know, it did this when on the OE ECU as well, so I know its not an aftermarket loom adapter that is at fault.

Spurred on by my recent success I am now looking what the Switch pack module controls

Taken from here : Lotus Elise Switch Pack Module Repair

Sidelights
Dip Beam Headlights
Main Beam Headlights
Daytime Running Lights Control
Rear Fog Lights
**Illumination**
Soft Touch Button Control
Button Tell Tale Warning Light Drive

Re-Circ Motor Control
Air Con switching functions.

I sort of do have an illumination issue, but no mention of anything to do with starting , or not starting.

The site does mention :

Common faults include relay failure, **circuits switching on and staying on** and random circuit activations.

I have no idea if the odometer / temp area is on a separate relay to the regular backlights on the dials though

I have been out for a Friday night shakedown post my wiring exploits

I can confirm :

1) The car goes well
2) Nothing is broken that wasnt broken before
3) If you see a white mini cooper with blacked out rear windows I went to the right at the junction. He wouldnt have seen which way I went after being 13cm from my rear bumper in a 30 zone

Tonight I changed over the throttle spring and took off the support that routes the cable throttle , and the spring.

A word of advice. Never , ever , ever take off that triangle. Ever.

I have never sworn so much before trying to get two bolts into captive nuts whilst upside down.

2hours of my life I will never get back

I miss my S1 Elise :( Fairly impractical, yes, but a hoot to drive!? Totally. And that car attracted more oestrogen-filled humans than any other. I WISH I had bought an S1 Exige when prices were stupidly low.

The prices are all over right now for a s1 exige..

The car sometimes likes to test my patience.

I am heading over to Spa for the classic in a few weeks.

The car has thrown its toys out of the pram with the IACV and now both rear uprights have decided they dont like their paint to be bonded to the GRP.

On the left upright it had bubbled and cracked on the outside

The other side had a blister in a similar spot.

I have taken these off now and they are away for paint this week.

I was quite fortunate to have a supervisor and mentor whilst working

You know the age old problem I have had with my car that I have never really fixed?

The one with the R4 fuse when inserted the dash oddo backlight wont go off?
I found a workaround. Press the up or down switch in the windows!

Strange, right?

Now, I have a replacement part coming - the ignition switch. It should be here today.

I am also due on a boat from Hull to Rotterdam on Thursday so I can goto the Spa Classic.

I can remove fuse R4.

Or do I play jeopardy and shout WATCH THIS and fit the part and hope I dont break anything else?

I know what I would do.....usually following by 48hrs of mega stress right up to point of going on a said road trip 🫣

So you should leave it and take the part with you but look forward to the update tomorrow 👍

What's the backup car 🚗 😂

I am becoming you.

54 minute lunch break.

Part replaced.

Still have the fault

I have resigned myself to the R4 fuse not being fixed before Spa. I dare not mess with anything now. Its too close.

I have been out and bought some new snazzy UK plates to replace my battered plates.

I went out for a small shakedown run to check that everything was working as expected as I had been rummaging around in parts that perhaps I shouldnt have been rummaging around in prior to a road trip

The less said about this, the better

I have however started dialogue with a very clever man about having a new loom made up. Quite how far I take this I am not sure yet.
