Loltus Exige

I have an ITG filter on the exige. I put it on after Fonzey great results changing over from the TRD box to the ITG filter. Its been on around 2years or approximately 23 miles due to my house move and knackered knee.

I wasnt going to let the fact that its done barely any mileage get in the way of me removing the filter and followed the YouTube video done by ITG to clean the filter and reoil it.

The filter came out easily enough from the engine bay. A few pan head screws holding the metal shrouding over the actual element.

This revealed :

Yep . That's a not very mucky air filter.

Undeterred I washed it as the guide recommended from inside out and then with a bit of fairly cleaned the foam.

IMG_3325.jpg

This was done while wife Bond was out to avoid any of "those" conversations. Sink was cleaned , but not too much to arouse suspicion.

I let it air dry for 24hours except I kept on finding small puddles of water lurking every time I picked it up. Cue a air blower I have for cleaning out PC cases and 5 minutes later - voila! Dry!

In the video it describes the use of gloves as mandatory. I scoffed at this but boy am I glad I put gloves on. That oil is seriously, erm oily. It gets everywhere. Its hard to judge what's not enough and what's too much. From what I understand if it looks dry , it is and if its dripping with the green oil its probably enough. I left it again for 24h upright but in the garage on a rag to absorb any excess.

Typically I have found with the Lotus if something comes out easily , its a pain putting it back in. If its a pain taking it out its a pain putting it back in. The filter was the latter , not the former. I just couldn't get the 8inch long strap that holds the metal casing against the support arm on. Lots of swearing and eye rolling later I changed methods and it was on.

Its baltic out in the garage tonight so I did what any sensible person would and pushed the car so the exhaust was out of the garage and ran the car upto temp. I figured even if I had over oiled it was in the best place to fail - the garage.

IMG_3341.jpg

It didnt , temps got upto 89degC , and oil around 65degC.

I did a couple of blips like I was warming up for some race and then put that car back where I found it.

I promise Ill get the car out of the garage in 2024!

I have now started working on the aero on the car. I dont think its bad, in fact I have no data to suggest otherwise but I have some spare time and some parts to fit.

I am sure F1 aerodynamicists work this way as well. Which is somewhat ironic as my car was owned by a Red Bull chief aerodynamicist ( I have a letter on file from him stating the car was in good order ) anyway ..

@Fonzey donated this reverie front elongate splitter to me a while back. I had a bad run of luck and only just got round to fitting it.

Its not quite a OEM fit. I have had to fill some holes, elongate others and wonder how I am going to overcome some problems.

I must admit I think it looks good though :

I have going to work out a method for attaching the numberplate. It will most likely involve some 90degree angles and some velcro.

One thing I am a bit perturbed by is the "hang" that the extended front splitter has as demonstrated here :

Apparently the vendors recommend that you put in two rivnuts to hold it up. I am not so sure I like the sound of that. I might use some of my reassuring expensive 3m tape but curious if a dab of sikaflex along this edge and the tape will do a job as well?

Side skirts are in production and I am awaiting h111 to do a discount code as I need some more rear A052s and replace the rear diffuser with a 5 element one.

I have done a little more tonight after having a bit of a " where is the numberplate going to go?" moment.

The original manufactures recommend drilling the front clam and putting the plate on there. I am not a big fan of that. Its a bit drastic.

So , what I did was take off the mounted splitter and start drilling holes in it. What could go wrong?

With a combination of Lotus fitting spire clips and bolts I made a thing. Its not overly pretty but it
a) Works
b) Was free
c) fully removable on track.

I am quite happy with it

IMG_3445.jpgIMG_3446.jpgIMG_3447.jpg

I then noted that I needed to repaint part of the front splitter as the isopropyl I had used to wipe it down had removed the paint in places.

I went to my state of the art spray booth and layed down some paint. Its curing now.

IMG_3448.jpg

The light seems to catch every single imperfection in the front splitter. Its not mint , but its not as bad as it comes out here either!

Once the paints gone off Ill be looking to do a final fit.

Well that was fun.

The new rear diffusers almost , nearly fits. Except in the places it doesnt. I had to elongate 2 holes , drill 2 new holes in fittings and then as known about drill two further holes for my rear blanking places.

I expected to whip off the old items and 20 minutes later put in the new one. Hour and a bit it took.

Ah well, the fun and games of owning a plastic shed I guess?

Anyway. Pics.

Its not as dramatic as a difflow diffuser ( fortunatly ) but it is subtlety different. If it wasnt for the 5 fins instead of the standard 3 id be a bit "meh" about it.

No doubt Ill be able to carry another 18mph through every bend now.

Thats the front and rear sections complete. Best start planning the side skirts now.

Its been sunny and dry here on the border of the Peoples Republic of Yorkshire so I decided to do a little run out.

I only did a 20mi or so circuit but I have been reminded again of how much I enjoy driving this car.
Its not the greatest of engine notes but when the supercharger is whining is intoxicating, and I just cannot get over how much difference the suspension refresh has made. Every time I drive the car it stuns me. The steering is almost telepathic. It was never bad before but now , just wow. Its incredible.

Sadly there are few minor niggles that I need sorting
The throttle appears to stick. I had it once where it stuck at 3000rpm , and frequently it sticks at 2000rpm. I am thinking as its a cable operated TB it could be that.
Since I bought the car there has always been an electrical gremlin where if I left the fuse in for the ECU live the car wouldnt stop on the key. Remove the fuse and all is fine. The purist in me wants to investigate that and put it right. Sure it works without the fuse, but why? Whats changed ?

Ill get these two points fixed then start to really enjoy the car again.

I have spoken to the man that can - Paul @ RSTuning and we think that the throttle stop might be a mm or two high.

I have lowered it and the idle stick is better but not perfect. I have adjusted it and awaiting to go out again.

I have now validated with the SCS delta software that its reading 0% on the throttle position.

IMG_3554.webp

If this doesn't fix it , I think it must be the cable sticking somewhere.

I have just been reviewing my past posts and checking and double checking everything on my TB.

I noted something. See the spring here ?

IMG_3555.webp

There appears to be the 3rd coil in , outside where it should be.

I double , and triple checked this against my original TB pictures and sure enough - it wasnt like that.

I slackened the nut holding the quadrant on just enough and realigned things. It looks like this now

Enough to make a difference? Ill try and find out after work tomorrow!

I cant get over my sequential fixation.

I have done some more research and have the following data ;

Quaife QKE9E - £7k + VAT + Supply my own C64. There literally appear to be zero for sale on the used market, which I appreciate is a gamble but I have a man that can with gearbox rebuilds.

Sadev ST82-14 £Bonkers + Vat. However I have spotted they arent *that* expensive used. Rebuild kits can be had for £720 ( yes , I appreciate the box could be toast but gearsets are available too )

Example : Sadev ST82-14 with all parts - Paddock 42

As I understand it the sadev is not a plug and play kit and needs a few more bits such as

Mounting plate to suit ST82-14 gearbox to Toyota 2ZZGE engine
Bespoke gear-lever, gear change & reverse cable
Intermediate bearing carrier
Specific flywheel to accept race clutch
Specific single plate clutch
Gearbox bracket
Sadev intermediate shaft, bearing & circlip
Sadev tripod kit

They all sound very cheap. It even has an inbuilt anti wall device :

Sounds like we all know what you are doing next 🫣😉💪

What's the setup with driveshafts, need custom ones or adaptor?
Assume your speedo feed is through ABS wiring so no drama there?
Don't forget gear indicator & shift light for full on track attack 😜

I get that a fully seq box is better than it for a few reasons and by far best for the track, but worth considering the cost of a DQ381 DSG box and skip the high maintenance and power limitations?

I share your same obsession. 😂

Sadev do the driveshafts , whereas Quaife fit OOTB.

Exactly - however have the possibility to use GPS too

How is a gear indicator LED £500? Madness!

The DSG doesnt interest me TBH in this car. I want the drama of a physical push pull rather than a set of paddles. It might be slower but I need to do the sequential thing
