Liquid Yellow on autotrader for £38k

Wow! Good to see that this one has been put back to standard..............would be interested to know how good the colour match is.

Think I would have expected bumper off and lights out rather then a load of masked edges not a particularly good job as wing/bumper joints will crack and creep back and allow lacquer to flake unless they are scrupulously clean in the crevice(which it wont be!). Pretty now, caveat emptor!

My AY first restoration (my AY's second!) was done this way. The finish was not wholly satisfactory.

Had the proper 'bumper off' and the bottom lip reinforced last time. Good as new (if not better!).

That's not restored ,that's a quick paint job to sell on ! .I have been in the car job for 30 yrs as a mechanic and doing strip and fit in body shops and i am still amazed at painters masking everything up when it doesn't take a lot longer to strip it properly and do the job right ,even down to rusty top mounts and headlight bolts ! It makes me feel a lot better about the condition of my car .

Totally agree, I never understand why people spend ages masking when as you say it is quicker normally just to remove the offending item! Lights, glass (in rubber seals, not bonded) and aerials are my personal bug bears! This one has all the hallmarks of a quick blow over to get it out the door, not a paint shop that could be trusted with a car that is of this apparent value! :(

Will the tell-tale signs not be on the doors for example?
If you went to see it and opened a door, surely the colour on the inside won't match the outside?
Under the bonnet and the boot lid as other examples?

More likely you will see polished out lines where the masking has been removed, if the colour has not been faded out across a join you will see two clearly defined colours where new meets old etc etc. A good body shop is worth its weight in gold for preparation and application of tricky colours such as J37 Jaune Sirius (LY to us in the UK) which will vary considerably with the density of application, even common or garden metallic basecoats can cause grief. In the 80s Ford would have a base colour with 20 or more variant shades which caused even greater problems, Diamond White being one of the worse to match, get it right under artificial light in the booth, looks perfect, take it outside, one look and back into the booth to try again!! Nightmare

That brings back memories... we had a 1979 diamond white Ford Escort estate.
(Not particularly fond memories - lol!)

Also on Fleabay, strong money but a nice car now, heavy mileage as it has done some 15k more than mine, good news if it sells but I would doubt it, £30k would be nearer the mark! Looked worse than mine and that is saying something

What would temp you to sell yours Simon

Just read Rossingtons 197/200 buyers guide lol. Maybe he could write an "honest" ad for this car.
Could be hilarious.

Only 1 previous owner previous to the one before I forgot about and not counting the current one who's a dealer so that doesn't count. Full glass in panels on blow over to hide the damage from the wrap we just carelessly pulled off along with the paint...

Otherwise 1 owner and mint.

Look at the link at top NOW ! Garage have added some subtle words are the end ! ;) God bless this club - nobody wants the wool pulled over there eyes when buying a car like these v6's ! I presume they have seen this thread ! Shame they don't state what has been done in THE ADVERT ! 38k ! I love ly but come on ! They need to be honest with a car like this ! B------s ! If I wasn't a member here and saw this car and loved it with no knowledge - then bought it - then realised this club was here I would be gutted ! Long winded I know but I hope you all see what I mean :) to the gullible buyer BEWARE - TO much money IMHO.

More realistic. Also one good point for the buyer is the seats have probably done 19,000 miles less than the car as I had Recaros fitted for my tenure;)

Now advertised in the latest issue of Modern Classics (Issue 6) for £32K, £3K more that advertised elsewhere (PH, eBay, Autotrader etc.) for several weeks - full-page article in the 'Modern Classic for Sale Sampled' section.

good cars will always sell (and have been), over priced cars may take longer (or a reduced price) to find a buyer. An average to poor v6 with 55k miles is never going to be an easy sale at top money, even if it is in Liquid Yellow.

I would comment that 2 cars have sold in excess of 30k in the past 8 weeks in the UK. and also note that prices have gone up massively in France, making 30k in the UK look cheap. This may mean more get exported, in turn increasing rarity here, as happened 2/3 years ago.

A snapshot of the ph2's advertised in France on leboncoin as of today:

Duncan is spot on. £30,000 plus territory in this country is still for very low mileage and/or rare colours. this one ticks the rare colour box but its had a hard life with some dodgy mods done to it at one point which have had to be corrected and Collectors/ Investors or ultra enthusiasts who will pay top money want half the mileage this has. 60k miles is more acceptable on a 20 year old plus car for collectors looking for the best.
A 30,000 miles well looked after original yellow would sell in an instant at a higher price than this.
ps. the French prices are bonkers at 78,000 euros! I'm not taking my car to France in case it gets nicked!
