Megane Laguna Turbo help required

So I picked up the 205GT Laguna today that I was planning to use for a Clio transplant. Its much to good to break so providing an can sort the following 2 problems at reasonable cost I'm going to sell the Safrane and use it has my daily for a while.

Can anyone help with the following
1. Car runs perfectly round town, under boost, hot or cold. On a motorway run I'm told it will regularly conk out and then not start . After a while it starts and runs fine again. Seeing as its basically the same engine as the Meg 225 I wondered if anyone had had the same problem, or a clue what's going on.

2. Has a new key card with it and although it starts with it in the dash and the car locks itself once you get out of the car , it will not work the central locking, so you have to open the passenger side with the key and if you don't get the key card in the slot quickly the alarm goes off. I thought this might just be the card reader in the dash not sensing the card?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

sounds like the card ,

if its the reader it will not start at all , or start sometimes and not all the time , the card reader is not coded so you can try another if you want.
it was my card when I had this issue.

I had a copy card made , not an Renault o.e you choice really.

with the other issue I am unsure @andybond might have an idea or @Moggy he has this car

Tony,
Two things to check for the cutting out, First I would check the connector on the fuel tank unit and if shows any signs of damage on either the tank unit or plug both will need replacement. The other item is the usual TDC pick up.

I did think maybe TDC, out of interest why would that cause a problem at motorway speeds only?

what Rich said about the fuel tank sender.... check the loom about 3-6".... there is usually a break!

needs a scan really mate.... but I've found mine is really fussy on spark plugs and coils... more so than the 225

its the same engine but a different exhaust camshaft

sounds like the card hasn't been programmed properly.... they have proper hands free... so when you walk away it locks, and then when you break the beam... it opens... so sounds like your door handles have failed... but as you can't manually open it with the key.... that sounds also like the key hasn't been programmed correctly... it is a 3 button card and not a 2 button... i've seen car lock smiths get 2 button cards to work... but.... not properly!!!

I love mine! had it 11 months and done nearly 8k in it.... and the megane has done 1678miles :-|

Thanks Mogs, have bought a TDC sensor and will check the loom =D. A friend of a friend at Renault is going to have a look at the card issue at the weekend. Passed MOT, just needed a track rod end, no other advises. Changed oil and filter so hopefully should be ready to use next week. What mpg do you get? Have you had yours remapped at all, I think the turbo is smaller than on the 225 so its a bit wheezy at the top end but a remap should still see a solid 20bhp 30ftlb increase I reckon

i got bored one night.... 2 laptops and went through the engine on both 225 and 205.... only thing that was different was the exhaust camshaft......

get.... 34-38mpg on a good run

around town, its usually esp off and silly numbers! its a bit like a 2wd 21 if you try to take off too fast... it just spins and tramps....

mines an sport tourer... its great with the hounds and boats etc...

Turbo is a td04-10T not a TD04-14T I think ...

prob reno doing the usual of factory fitting one thing then offering a 'group' part as the replacement, as the part number was the same as on my 225 and 205

Ok it wasn't the TDC sensor, changed that and the problem seems worse. Only runs for a few minutes now before the fault reoccurs rather than 1/2 an hour. Now I have first hand experience of the problem it definitely feels like a fuel issue. Drives perfect then it just feels like its run out of fuel. Leaving it for a while gains you just a minute or so before it happens again. Going to check the loom tomorrow see what I can see. If this looks ok what are the chances of the fuel pump being faulty? Are they known to cause problems? Or is there a fuel filter anywhere that might be blocked?

Laguna II fuel filters are integral with the tank/pump unit.
If you do remove the unit, make sure the tank is as empty as you can get it and refit the nut/ring to prevent distortion of the tank thread.
