Laguna idle problem.

Hi,I have a 96 mk1 1.8, 8v, 1783cc single point injection laguna hatchback.

when starting from cold in warm/hot weather it needs throttle and tries to idle at 5-800 rpm also it does not idle evenly ,even if you hold it at 1200 rpm(but idles ok when up to a working temp),when its colder outside the cars starts fine with no throttle and idles about 1200 rpm slowing as it warms up.

I`ve noticed when its cold the stepped/idle motor moves to adjust the idle, but it does not when it warm/hot outside.

I have changed the coolant temp sensor and it made no difference.

Any body got any ideas ??.

Thanks.

did you get the right coolant sensor? theres 3 different ones.

What TB is it, some of the really early ones had a throttle switch as well which can mess up when hot therefore not allowing idle regulation.

Idle problem.

Hi,I believe I got the right one,the one I got had a small thread diameter and a white block for connecting(they sent me a different one first with a large thread).

This is the sensor bought.

I believe its a Bosch monopoint.

If it has a throttle switch where would it be located.

At the moment I have had to screw in the allen stop bolt to force a minimum but rough idle.

Do you think there's any other sensor that might be responsible for this.

Its strange as it had been running fine, then a month or so ago the other half came back on a hot day and it was idleing at 400-800 rpm, since then it sometimes it will idle other times it wont, mainly when the weather is hot,but it does seem to run better when the car is up to working temp.

Thanks.

its part of the TPS but not all had them.

if it was a sudden occurrence I would be looking for a broken wire somewhere or an open/short circuited air temp sensor on the throttle body.
