La 'Trophy' project

Little update... I've had a break from using the moulds and decided to try and remake the moulds for the Trophy brake cooling ducts ( as a few members shown interest ;) )

In all the years of searching, sourcing, finding Trophy parts I've never seen or handled a set to copy or remake. But one Facebook hit made things happen ( Thanks Russell Etherington ) posted up selling some parts and the good people on the forum ( bill patchall , Oldskoolbaby, redraven DaveL485 , ) Thanks to all of them as all this is a team effort :salut:

The reason these ducts are so scarce is the fact that the Trophy cars ran a low splitter and the ducts run over the top and got left at many a race track!!!!!!

From above the ducts got a little TLC and with a bit of fibre glass / filler / primer started looking a bit better. Ready for moulding and start to think about 'split' lines.

This is make or break!!!!! Two weeks of an hour a night spent in the garage so will the thing split as it should????

With all the thought what do we think could happen :rofl:

Just need to tidy the mould and give them a good polish and might be making Trophy duct again ( haven't found anyone else doing them )

It's been a while since the last update but still chipping away at things when time permits.
The last post mainly consisted of the brake cooling ducts and they have now been made and looking good, almost as if the splitter was designed around them ;)

We have also been busy trying / fitting a few 'home' made panels to the car and finding mixed results!!!!! Some parts good and some we are thinking the moulds might have moved and relaxed over the years :( The latest is we have transformed the rear from this....

To this....

Loads of bits coming in at the moment and they are out there if you look deep enough ;)
The 'big' one arrived last week even though I wasn't searching for it!!!!! Yes, a real Trophy engine and Sadev box got delivered [smilie=yay.gif]
The offer was too good to refuse and deal made, I don't think we'll be fitting any time soon as I'd like to get the car looking as it should and enjoy it for a bit before playing with the engine and box.

Todays parcel was the second set of Renault Sport harnesses [smilie=yay.gif] Don't often come up for sale in the UK but sourced this set in Holland!!!

Sorry for the phone pics and must remember to get the camera out!!!

Ballsy looking harnesses there, Russo... I hadn’t noticed they had RS logo on before. I’ll have to ask Santa for a set.

Your project is coming along nicely. Looks like you’ve acquired enough hardware to start another project too.

I look forward to further updates.

Getting chilly out there, more logs on the garage fire needed. ;)

Yes James heated blanked under the mould and good heater above we still are doing a bit ;)

So the back end looking a little fresher we're moving forward and missing the doors for the time being as there might be something in the pipeline ;)

Next on the list is the front arch, so the mould had a good clean and release agent applied ready for the gel-coat and same fibre glass applied as earlier ( didn't think this one would 'pop' out with a few negative recesses!!!!) but all worked out fine.

The mould prepped;

All glassed up;

Fresh out of mould;

And a noticeable difference..... can anyone tell me why the recess around the light blank is not as defined as original parts?? Maybe Duncan could hazard a guess? Could the moulds be casted off the clay master or rather someone copied the parts and thought it easier the reduce the recess!!! We shall never know :rollseyes:

Good question Duncan I don’t see many PH1s with headlights to suggest a protection cover plate was a motorsport add-on

The original parts definitely had the deeper recess. from distance it makes it look like the headlight blank is detachable.

No idea why the moulds you have are different. The wings didn't change design from 1999 through to 2002. Perhaps the old mould wore out and they made a new one from it without the recess?
