Thats all until next time ;)

Part 25 - Shitty suspension

Suspension needed work as very wallowy last time out at Teesside. Sourced a set of Mark Fish eibach springs to fit (big thanks to @SP33DY ) and had a good set of used 172 cup shocks in stock.

As expected removed strut and found a threaded bolt to add to the list of bodges

20171021_143031.webp 20171021_143024.webp

Odd springs and 170k diesel shocks - discovered this after cleaning strut up and googling part number - assume original as oem Renault strut

Cup shock built up vs original shite20171021_152818.webp
Fitted - Elongated top strut hole to add -2.5deg negative camber - worked out with some maths the oldskool way and new bolts torqued to spec & marked up

Adjusted torsion bar another -20mm to suit the new lows on the front. To recap

20171023_170356.webp 20171022_171344.webp 20171022_171353.webp As seen with the cup wishbones giving additional 3deg castor the tyre is knacker tight against the bumper and wing. It drove ok with the occasional rub so give it some clearance with the flapper wheel.View attachment 89549 20171023_215040.webp20171023_215024.webp Had the toe set @ 10mins toe out overall as discussed with @Ricardo as he has good experience with fast road/track geometry on the clio's. This combined with -2.5deg negative camber and 3deg castor makes for good turn in with fresh shocks and the Mark fish springs. Its a riot on the roads :D

Part 26 - Croft

Stuck a days holiday in and went to Croft. They had spaces left so managed to get on for half price which was awesome - weather was dry and very mild so straight on. Db check at 91db at 5k rpm no worries about failing that
20171027_115457.webp 20171027_115556.webp 20171027_131330.webp 20171027_131351.webp
Had a great day - no issues - felt like it could go round flat out all day. Handling is great turns in really well - what it lacks on the straights it seems to make up on the corners. A lad in a track prepared mx5 came over at the end and said he could not believe how well it cornered he could not keep up. Towards the end i had the pressure on a light blue ph1 meg 225 on the back part of the track - he was getting well out of shape trying to get away on the corners. Had massive fuel surge when tank was low on the hairpin bend when chasing him so had to call it a day at that however it was about 5 mins before the chequered flag so got my moneys worth. Was great had loads of time on track

Some pics - Cheeky 2 wheels due to clipping the apex XSP_6848.webp XSP_6790.webp XSP_6815.webp XSP_6816.webp XSP_6817.webp XSP_6865.webp XSP_6866.webp XSP_6867.webp Ps3s have took a battering. Far too soft for track sadly even though the grip is great20171104_131203.webp 20171104_131236.webp On this note i have been looking for a cheap set of 15s and got these 15x7 Tecnomagnesio detroit for a bargain £50 delivered with budget 195/45/15 fitted
20171031_203649.webp 20171031_203931.webp 20171104_155127.webp Look pretty decent when fitted. Got some semi slicks on the way however wont be able to get them sorted before Cadwell this Friday so considering grip juicing the budget tyres. Handling might not be fantastic but might aswell rinse them off as only getting binned and not chasing lap times so im sure they will do the job. I do have the other option of fitting the williams wheels off the dci on with the parada spec2s on, will see what i can be arsed doing nearer the time just want to jump in and drive it :D

Part 27 - Cadwell

Tyres were looking shady on the turinis and would not last another trackday. Loaded van up with the track wheels and tyres were catching the arches a little so had to make an emergency wheel swap with the clio and empty the back 'Superleggera'20171109_185124.webp Morning pre cadwell

Went to noise testing and pulled 91db from memory, had a small hiccup and the engine cut out when driving away from noise testing. Quick whack of the sender unit and it fired up lol. Kangoo was flying to be fair 3 wheels everywhere had a riot, Good N/A powerband and good handling made for good pace. Lashed quite a few mx5s one lad said he could not believe how fast i was getting away from him on the corners and straights - pulled away from a couple of clios on the start finish straight so i guess the engine must be pretty fit:D Was also shocked at how good the oldskool Yoko Parada spec 2's were in the dry pretty impressed for cheap rubber

A couple of track pics

Picked up an engine on the way back for my Extra. Minor arch to tyre grinding so had to knock the torsion bar up 50mm or so. 15min job due to the bars having being in and out many times - back end has been up and down more times than a whores knickers recently:D20171110_204657.webp 20171110_221249.webp Journey home was pretty uneventful apart from the fucker would not start without whacking the sender unit lol. Engine warning light came on due to decat which did not make any difference to performance 20171111_135300.webp Back home with high rider rear
20171111_152715.webpInvestigated the non start issue and noted plug to sender was fucked pins were shot. Rewired with new plug and touch wood seems to start every time now
20171119_135123.webp
Re adjusted torsion bar once again and fettled arches a little
20171119_150416.webp
Cleaned after 2x trackdays as was looking very sorry for itself. Comes up nice though
20171126_143213.webp 20171126_143259.webp Stance looks great at this height
20171202_150727.webp 20171202_150737.webp 20171202_150751.webp And finally a couple of snow pics. Roll on 2018's trackdays:)20171211_142157.webp 20171211_180638.webp

Bodies would sound proper tasty! I still have visions of white 2118s, FULL cage.... It's a good job I don't have the time!

Full cage and 2118s would be awesome

Another excellent write up Mr Briggs. Always look forward to reading about PMT North progress.

This wants boost not NA. :)

Power would be easy with boost. Just the crappy gearbox bolted to it sadly
