Just a quickie - is it hard to replace the air filter ?

I just searched, it came back as a mine field though (lots of info to go through) I went through a good few pages.

Is it easy to change the air filter element on a mk1 ? Can I just do it with the covers off ? (lean in, pop the strap thing off etc)
Or do I have to remove all of the other plastic round the engine to gain better access?

Thanks.

May be able to do it with covers on though it's fairly awkward getting to the screws underneath the box.

I bought a green cotton one to replace the original, was about £40 or so.

i have the cdm carbon box, it soungs fantastic and is really easy to fit, i found you do have to remove the top covers which takes about 15 mins, just a case of removing the screws and torque bolt things, once all removed you can do the filters,

where do you live mate, could lend a hand if needed

Once I take the outer plastic moulding bits off (after removing the engine covers) Is it just a case of removing the strap round the air box to gain access to it ?

Sorry to sound so dumb, I hate this sort of thing [smilie=doubt.gif]

Did you find any noticable gains other than noise with the CDM?

My sounds very noisey as is so can't understand how it could be noisier :D

i Take it those pics are of the ph2?? and as i need to mine we are talking about the ph1, as my engine as i see it looks abit different and the air box is more squarer ??

Cheers Roy

I finally had time to do it yesterday :) The one on the car seemed to be the original one [smilie=icon_eek.gif] & was pretty grubby, it also looked to have part of a birds nest on it too [smilie=doubt.gif] (well a slight exageration lol)

It's quite a labourious job, lots of those silly starhead screw things to undo :(
The hardest part I found was getting the elastic straps back round the air box, a complete pain to do !

It's a tad louder when I hit to go pedal now, that's it really. I wasn't expecting much else tbh.

Many thanks Matt,
will give a it try tomorrow - but with the clear guidance and pictures...I'm much more confident
many thanks Teun
