Hi everyone I am new to this site.
I have owned my Renault Megane RT Sport 1.6 from New and it was first registered on 01-August-1997 so I have had it for 10 years.
My partner uses it for runs to the shops and to see our grand children and since we have had the car its only covered 28500 miles.
We have had to buy a total of 4 tyres, 1 Tail box, and for the latest MOT we put the first set of new front pads on it and changed the discs. and basically thats it.
Recently had a problem with the passenger side filling up with water in the footwells and I hope I have sorted that one out today by cleaning and blowing out the drain from the power roof area.
But I could do with some help with this next one and I did look in your archives and found someone had exactly the same problem yonks ago.
Being a pensioner I have a go at most things but my back doesn't let me do too much.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi,
-NOT my car (I have a '98 Renault Megane Classic RT. About 5 weeks ago, the alarm died, so my local mechanic disconnected it, but left the remote control central locking and immobiliser working as normal). NOW my problem comes up !!It's been working fine since then, until today...
When I went to unlock it, the plip wouldn't work. I tried the spare one. It wouldn't work either, so I unlocked the driver's door using the key, the old-fashioned way. I noticed that the other doors stayed locked when I did this. I put the key in the ignition, expecting to see the red immobiliser light flashing, but instead, the yellow "electronic incident" light at the right hand side of the dash was flashing. I also noticed that the central locking button on the dash wasn't working.
I've checked that the batteries are OK in both keys, so I'm guessing I have a problem with the car's central locking electrics.
Any advice on what it's likely to be before I have to take iot to a garage for an expensive workout (The old pension takes a long time to save up for bits like this)?
How do I do this> Is removing the central locking fuse to check it likely to cause any problems with the security system? (eg. resetting it and needing me to extract the security code from my local not-so-friendly Renault dealer for entry once the central locking's working again)
Then Mick posted this ....>>> Now I am getting worried as I dont know exactly where to look for these bits my basic car engineering started with a 1959 Ford Prefect in 1963 and they were quite easy to look at.

The Megane's are imobilised at the ECU and the Fuseboxes IIRC and the key fob tells them both to disarm when the button is pressed and the cycling code is accepted by the IR receiver which in turn opens the doors. It sounds to me like there is a problem with the fusebox as I believe it also controls the central locking and replaced the seperate central locking relay as found in the 19's. This being the case, i'd start to panic about price because I also believe that the fuse boxes are vehicle specific and a random one from a scrap yard will not do the job without a trip to your local main dealer to have them sync'd. Have you tried plugging the alarm back in to see if this cures your problem?
Chet or Chris should be able to say for sure though but I'm pretty certain the fuseboxes are vehicle specific.

I'd have a look to make sure the receiver isn't swimming in water first tbh
My final bit which shows my lack of car knowledge! Where is the receiver what does it look like I cleared the flood from around my sunroof and unblocked the tube.?
If you can help words of one sylable would help the old frazzled brain take it all in and then I can hope to get the car up and running again without spending ££££'s.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that some bright spark will be able to help.
Many thanks
