Is this overpriced? ph2 black with 45k miles, £35k

I'm interested in this (link below) but it seems hard to put real values on these at the moment. The few ph2s that have sold on collecting cars this year have all gone for under £30k (except the red one) , and a couple had similar mileage to this one. Apparently this one is immaculate with great history, so I do value it more than those ones. But I'm still not sure about the £35k price.

Does anyone here have any actual sold prices from this year (other than collecting cars) to show what they are really selling for? Dealers put whatever values they want and many sit around for months.

Heres the link-

Prices seem to be a cause of some controversy and debate on here.

The V6 remains a mini-exotic and £35k looks good compared to new Megane Trophy-R and A110 prices.

However, SGM is the best person to consult as it’s been through his hands. Personally, I’d want to know it’s ‘pretty damn perfect’ for that money/mileage.

Mine is only on 18k miles, but that didn’t deter me from having a proper shakedown in 2018. Some owners have gone the extra mile. Buy on condition.

Its strong money, but if it is truly immaculate and doesn't want a penny spending on it, than I'd guess its about right for a dealer sale. Personally Id hope there is some wiggle room in the price.

I keep a record of car sales, but auctions aside, the information is given in confidence so I don't publish it. This year I reckon more cars have sold via auction than via dealers!

If it helps, that Black Gold is [v6plaque]315[/v6plaque] and it sold via collecting cars for 26k in October. link

Looking at the condition in the car in the collecting car auction photos, id say that 26k was a fair price for it. They have added the Recaros and changed the steering wheel (not to everyones taste), but the condition of the car was considerably below average and worse than its mileage would suggest. Unless its had a fairly major refresh in the past 2 months, I would say its between 6-10k over priced.

Its a tough one, I think I would have to call SGM and see if they can tell me about the cars overall condition. Apparently its had an engine out cambelt service with them recently.

I saw the black one sold be collecting cars, I didnt know it was the same car being sold now. How do you know its the same car? They didnt mention it in the description and didnt show the plaque with number on in the pics. And I obviously havent asked them what number it is yet.

I agree if it is the same car from collecting cars that one needed a lot of TLC. They have done an engine out cambelt service at SGM recently, done the steering wheel, brakes and a few other things. But they didnt tell me about doing any paintwork, which the one from Collecting cars clearly needed.

So please can you confirm if this is the same car and how you know? cheers

Is it sad to say I recognised it from the worn out gear knob?!! I then checked the registration date which they state in the advert. Only two UK v6’s were registered that day (I have records from DVLA of all the UK cars) and only one of those two was black gold. Plus the mileage is the same.... it can only be one car!

Great sleuthing! Im glad people like you exist in the forums [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

And you are right, Ive just asked the dealer and it is the same car. Theyve confirmed its had an engine out service with belts, pumps etc at SGM, new brake discs and pads all around, new michelin tyres all around, steering wheel, seats (both originals included), some paintwork to repair lacquer peel and stone chips, tinted windows removed, and it will be fully detailed and paint corrected. They say theyve spent almost £4k on it and assure me its immaculate.

I guess ill call SGM and get an experts feedback on it.

So based on the above do you have any further thoughts on the price? I paid about £13k for mine 10 years ago which was immaculate [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

<4K doesn’t seem like they have spent enough to me! The paint was terrible on that car.

All I can say is go and see it. If the work is extensive and top notch then the price is about right for the top end of a dealer sale. If the car is still rough (massive scuffs on the side of the centre console, worn out gear knob, dodgy paint on roof, lacquer peel everywhere, the list goes on...) then the price is a bit rich and it’s a <30k car.

I spoke with SGM and they've given it a clean bill of health mechanically, it needs nothing else doing. But by the sounds of it there is still work to be done cosmetically. I agree with you, just under £4k spent does'nt sound enough for everything. Id say it needs another £2k spending on on paintwork and tidying up etc.

Never quite sure why some folk photograph their cars in flat light on a scabby bit of tarmac in the middle of nowhere. Even the chance damp patch on the floor looks like an oil leak.

(My pet hate is those people who wash their car minutes before taking photos and show the soap suds on the floor underneath.)

In contrast, there are some very nice photos of (presumably) this same car on Dawn’s VII Car Care Facebook pages…

Not sure if Shaun’s is still for sale, but Fred has posted that he’s looking to sell… that means there’s x3 decent/usable BGs for sale in the UK at the moment.
