Is my gearbox broken?

Had driveshaft/cv joint failure, and also found my circlip had popped, fitted new circlip and fitted new driveshaft but with it in gear it doesnt hold the shafts from turning...so im finding it really hard to tighten the hub nut up.

I presume this is down to the circlip, but as i havent started the engine, moved it or anything of the sort, just popped the shaft in, it shouldnt have popped surely? Unless my gearbox is stuffed.
Any advice would be much appreciated, need to check if the circlips still in or not really, but got work soon so shouldnt really get all dirty.

other front wheel off the ground?

Yes if the other wheels is off the ground it will just spin.

That's normal... i think.... mine did this. I was a bit confused but shrugged it off.

Put it down on it's wheels or get someone to apply the brakes whilst you tighten up the hub nut.

Although.. hate to break it to you but once the circlip pops out once in a gearbox.. it tends to keep on happening

I hope you're lucky though! Many people have them welded in.

its normal. either put the wheels back on the ground and tighten it or get someone in to stand on the breaks.

as above, i only tighten the hub nuts with the car on the ground

Mine popped a clip....£70 f.f.s fine since though..
