Insurance values

What value have you set your Vee when insuring it?

I've been dealing with a few brokers and large insirance companies today (club related), and they suggested circa £15k for the average MK 2 V6. Possibly a little more if it is mint. They asked me for information on recent sales owners have made to give them an idea of what to really value the cars at. Seems they valued my opinion of the v6 and will use what I say to adjust market values as we are the biggest owners club.

My insurance is due in a month and was thinking around £15K as the car is "mint" [smilie=bunny_4.gif]

I thought your car was Illiad Blue Phill not Mint Green

Good oh James, keep us posted :-)

it should be valued on what it would cost you to buy one in the same condition back.

although you can get mk1s for 8k, I would say I would need about 9.5-10k to buy another one that I was happy with so that’s what I valued it at.

LOL  I'm just glad that the insurance companies haven't noticed that the Blue one's are faster [smilie=icon_eek.gif] otherwise there could be a premium to pay for all Illiad owners [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Just insure it 3rd party Phill, you don't drive it fast enough to crash it - or maybe the blue ones don't go fast enough

I've just renewed my insurance and I got the details in the post today. They had the value down as £17k which is less than I had it for last year. Just rang them to say I'm not too happy about that, they told me cars depreciate each year so he has to lower it. I said fair enough usually but these are rare cars which seem to be holding their value plus the rare colours go for more. They're still selling for £20k odd in my colour etc. He went off for a bit came back and said sorry, Parkers are saying it's worth £13k so I can't change it! So I have it valued at £17 but if it gets stolen or written off - god forbid - will I still only get the £13 they value it for back??

As car sales are not high at the moment and prices are low due to time of year and the financial problems wont insurance values have dropped low too.

They wouldn't even give me that option by the sounds of it, do only certain companies do this? All the insurance companies I got quotes from were telling me that seemed a very high value for one as well!
