Insurance conundrum

As some of you might know my poor VW Bora was rear ended by some moron. The car belongs to me, but it's through my wife's insurance and I'm the named driver. The insurance has been great... courtesy car, physiotherapy etc.
The guy who crashed into me, his insurance has contacted me and tried to get ne to use their hire car service, and pay me £100 foe the inconvenience. I didn't bother going for it. However, they sent a cheque to me yesterday for £2500, for losses incurred due to my car being fucked. An interim payment.
I've spoken to my insurer, who've said, send it back, as I'm insured with them and they are dealing with everything. However, I'm due to speak to their engineer on the 9th June who will give me the news as to whether my car is repairable or if its written off. If it is written off, I suspect that I'll not get anywhere near £2500 for a 23 year old Vw Bora. So, do I keep the cheque handy, or do I leave it entirely to my insurer?

That’s interesting.

By accepting the £2500 are you waiving any other compensation or claim ability?
I don't know. They've passed me on to a different company that's dealing with my injuries. They're not being totally clear and honestly quite aggressive in their rebuttal, which leads me to think there's more to this than meets the eye.

Yeah, I mean the figure from the other insurers is suspiciously high IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I'd love the money to buy a slightly better banger, but if it causes that many issues with my actual insurer, then maybe best to swerve it.

I would agree with that.

Was any legal wording issued on the paper work - like with out prejudice , not accepting liability or full and final?

That seems a decent offer. Normally the words without prejudice and not an admission of liability are used

That's what I thought, however my own insurer seems to be insistent that if I take it, I'm somehow nullifying their involvement.

I suspect your insurer want the work as they will get some markup / payout from it

I suspect the other party want to use their insurer as it will be cheaper as they wont have to put any markup on it.

I would be curious to how the injury claim proceeds - if there is one?

I'm seeing the physiotherapist twice a week already. 😁
I would be opening dialogue with the third party about their route of re-imbursement.

It seems clear to me they are happy to keep costs down and keep your payments coming through.
