Automatic box for the v would be a big job the engine management system would not be compatible with the torque banding of an auto box. Throttle body would have to be changed. Pedal box would have to be changed and the brake bias system would have to be altered.....not an easy job, but not impossible.
Talked to the guy breaking the mk1 racing clio a while back about the sadev box he has, said it will fit standard car engine no problem, wanted something like 6k for it with parts.......can't remember exactly, will dig out the details
thought it would be an interesting mod.....
there also a vid on youtube of somebody driving a mk1 vee with super charger that has a sequential box on it LINK
the sadev has a brutal gearchange, you need to be really tough with it, far removed from paddle shifts! Would need to rig up some kind of pnumatic shifter to enable paddles.
I've used a number of these flappy paddle rubbish whilst test driving various cars. Imo completely removes the connection with the machine that a nice manual box gives. I'm throwing down the gauntlet here but I can't think of a single road car currently fitted with flappy paddles that wouldn't be more involving and ultimately more enjoyable with a slick, snickety manual box.
The supercar world is looking increasingly sanitized due to the march of the marketing men and their insistence that the public want flappy paddle gear boxes. Thank fook for the Noble M600...
another few years & the euro car companies will be hit with lawsuits for flappy paddle RSI related injuries.....why do you think the americans removed the need to manually change gear in most of their cars years ago......
Sadev box in a road car will cost you north of 8k to do properly, will make you ears bleed and will need a rebuild every x thousand of hours. They need their own cooling system consisting of a oil pump, pipe work and radiator and the oil you put in them is viciously expensive.
Most of the flappy paddle systems will fit any sequential box since they are normally pneumatic actuators along with an ECU which your "program" to give the correct throws. The flasher (read more expensive) systems will integrate with an ECU (not OEM one though) to provide an ignition cut for flat shifts.
Proper flappy paddle systems i.e. ones which you'd trust to change gear on your 8k of sequential box will cost you upwards of 2k.
I've had the pleasure of using sequential boxes - they're fantastic; on track... Would I want to use a sequential box to go and pick up my shopping on a Saturday morning or attempt a 10mph cruise through MaccyD's? no way.
There's a company in Romania, IIRC, that makes a sequential shifting mechanism with "assistance" that's designed to be used with gearboxes using 2 x bowden cables and with a normal H pattern. In theory such a system could be actuated via flappy paddles.
