I had a wobble this week...

The realisation dawned that a V12 Aston Martin is within reach. I'd have to sell the V6, Meglio, the Red Quadra and maybe the 9 and all related parts but a V12 Aston is bucket list, realistic dream car. I'd prefer a Vanquish or Vantage, of course but they are still out of reach.
I saw a DB9 go through an auction with 110k miles on the clock at sixteen grand. Sixteen!

£28k DB9 V12

£26k DB9 Volante

Cheap DB9, but hideous colour

Vantage currently @ £21k

I am high bidder on this so far... I can't help it.

What would you do?

They do nothing for me ( sorry! ) so I would
Sell the 21TQ red one.
Sell the 9T
Sell the Meglio

Finish the 21TQ white one toute suite.

Then you have a 21TQ White Europacup rep, a V6 and a utility vehicle in Frank the Ovlov tank

I see the attraction, but you need to ask yourself, "How good do you look like in a Tuxedo?" when you drive an Aston with all that James Bond baggage... so I would
  • Sell the 21TQ red one.
  • Sell the 9T
  • Sell the Meglio
  • Finish the 21TQ white one toute suite.
Then you buy a new Meg 4RS

Do it, but it's V8 Vantage for me, had a pike at a couple, clutches seem regular changes.
Talk myself into it and can run to one.......but wallet won't open
DB's look a bit old farty to me
15k Bentley Conti GT is tempting too.....

That’s some wobble , I see the attraction, I really do . I would struggle to let the V6 go if it was me . My next door neighbour test drives the new ones and brings them home when the route will let him they sound amazing , look amazing then I sit in one that’s where it all goes wrong. Good luck

Having never owned most of what's on your list I can only go by personal preference.

I genuinely wouldn't sell the Clio V6 for an V12 Aston save the V12 Vantage - and even then I think the V6 will bring more smiles to your face for longer. A DB7/9/S is a cruiser and so won't really be fun on A- or B- roads. Having driven large GT cars (mainly V8 and W12 Bentleys) on small roads it very quickly becomes apparent that they have far too much power and weight to really be fun for any length of time.

And if you think the running costs & parts for the V6 are expensive, a V12 Aston will be a whole different ball game!

I know that bucket-list cars are never sensible purchases and logic & reason go out the window (I've made a few but not cars - yet!) so I think the most logical thing I would say is try to get a test drive somewhere but go to it in the V6. Then drive home and think about which one you really enjoyed the most to drive.

However, this V12 looks rather cheap....

T...Tw....Twenty grand?

Oh my.

Also....LOL

Yeah - it's cheap. The only thing cheaper was a V12 DB7 with a few more miles - which I personally think would be a bit more fun but no idea how a DB7 holds up to the mileage.

I would love to know what caused the engine to need replacing. I thought those V12s were pretty strong.

You're fucking mad!

£30k buys you an R32 Skyline with the guarantee that in 3 years you'll sell for £50k.

Brother in law knows Aston well and says 'you know how Ford interiors fall apart going over a speed bump well this is not much different'

Been telling him how crap they are but it's all on deaf ears!

Reality,,,,they are wonderful cars. BUT christ are they expensive to maintain and then ask yourself how reliable they are. Nice itch to scratch but go into it with your eyes open. GOODLUCK

V12 Aston Martin........go on....you only live once ......or twice.
I'm gonna buy this, smoking on one bank, what could possibly go wrong with a W12 twin turbo...?....Tin of stop smoke magic liquid off ebay.....fixed...

I always have a wobble, then I remember I’m cash poor, asset poor and just keep swimming, swim, swim, swim, swimming......,

oh look, a car I’d really like, repeat ♾

I like the look of an Aston Martin but can’t ever say I’ve felt the need to actually look around one or even try and sit in one.
clio v6 on the other hand, I’d happily try and get a go in one just because what they are as opposed to what they represent

If it’s something you really want to do and have done for some time then I say go for it, we’re only here once. Although I’d be really cautious about letting the V6 go, unless you’ve had your fun with it and don’t mind moving it on of course.
I’m sure you would anyway but these are special cars so ‘research’ is the word, every supercar has its achilles. Who can supply the parts at reasonable prices?, what independents are about who can service them for a reasonable price? .. it’s ok saying you can service it yourself but when you go to move it on people will want to see legit stamps in the book and receipts of care. The good thing about having Ford parts is easier accessibility in getting some things.
When I talked of selling my minty mint ‘no expense spared’ and massively loved Megane R26 to buy a 911 most thought I was mad and told me not to do it, but I always hankered after one as I love the heritage blah blah and the sense of occasion when I get in it, and always said I’d only sell my R26 for another Renaultsport or a 911. I won’t lie, initially after getting the 911 I thought “shit, what have I done!!??” ... but I learnt that for me 911s where abit like a Robbie Williams song .. slow burners.
At the end of the day it’s what you want, and nobody else, but to get rid of the V6!! Hmmm

They look great, go very well and in a different league...like a lot of these types of car they take some time to really bond with but a genuine sense of occasion.....especially the turbo v12

Having been lucky to get some time in the db11 v12 twin turbo AM I really liked it as did the kids......however appetite for tyres, brakes and love of fuel would bankrupt me let alone anything ever going wrong....this had the wick turned up to wjat the box could take which has it limitations....this one with all the options was house money!!!

Friend at work had a v8 vantage I helped change his replace some large dinner plates and pads and was nice to drive but while it had most the the right ingredients not sure it did it for me

@DaveL485 if you do get serious ping me and can get some inside advice ;)
