Hi chaps so today was fun, myself and a couple of pals picked up our GR Yaris

Non of us had test driven.....

This car defies the laws of physics it’s epic.

Orders are still being taken in the UK currently with the waiting list just over 13 months, I love it so much I’m tempted to order another.

Superb! :approve:

IMO the GRY has managed to achieve a significant milestone in engineering for a hatchback. Everything is just so right. Thoroughly enjoying mine, but a few hundred miles to go before it is fully broken in. Then the fun will begin - already planned a few outings, now that both the bodyshell and underbody have been protected. The next stop is Center Gravity, but not until July (the earliest available slot) to have the geometry checked and adjusted to eliminate the dead spot at 12 O'clock. That is it!

Wonderful car and one I have been waiting for for quite a while...

Hi Lankan,

Mine arrived Friday having had the full PPF treatment and full ceramic coating but I've only 44 miles on the clock as its been bloody raining since! Please can you tell me where you got you mudflaps from? How did you fit the rears as I understand there is no factory provision for this.

Many thanks.

Superb! Congratulations... :approve:

I trust you are getting the most out of your GRY, and guess it is a Circuit Pack?

The flaps are from Rallyflapz - a nice easy install. Some drilling is involved when installing the rears, but it only involves the rear arch guards, not the bodywork. The mud flaps are a must-have to avoid having permanently spattered sides!

I spent a week thrashing the GRY around the Northern Lakes in June, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The GRY is built for those roads...

When did you place your order?

Enjoy!

PS: DVLA have just released the latest registration figures:

Make Model 2021 Q1 UK 2020 Q4 UK
TOYOTA GR YARIS 4WD 70 21
TOYOTA GR YARIS CIRCUIT 4WD 766 186
TOYOTA GR YARIS CONVENIENCE 4WD 25 0

Hi,

Many thanks for the mud flap info. I'd seen the rallyflapz online and I'm guessing you got the extra graphics I'd seen also? Either way looks In keeping and protects to a point. We ordered the car on 19/12/2020 and had it collected from the dealers on 4/7. The PPF took a week approx. The car has 71 miles on it now but I forgot how annoying running a car in is, particularly one that just wants to go. It sounds like you are having fun in yours now it's run in. Our car is a scarlet flare circuit pack.

Cheers

Pete

I bought a new Escort RS Custom. I remember thinking at the time 'this will be the car to have' it had a limited production run of 1000 so that means values will hold up......wrong. Ford realised there was more demand so lifted the limit and built as many as could be sold. Lesson learnt !

Well what do you guy's think of the new 2022 GRY ? Sounds like an improvement in power and handling.

Hmmmm...where did you hear/read/see this?

A waiting list for the GR Yaris was put in place by Toyota UK in early July, which is still in effect.

There have been a few videos of a 'hot version' of the GRY pounding around the Nurburgring for a while, which is clearly a race car. Hence my curiosity...

Those videos look like a ‘social media ruse’ to click on their page. It will be interesting to see whether Toyota ultimately elect to ‘cash in’: +10bhp, convenience plus circuit pack, GR rear spoiler & decals, and a revised rear view mirror would be an easy £38k win.

The video of a 'hot version' I referred to above is of the one that first surfaces some months ago, and yet again a few weeks ago: LINK
This is rumoured to be a race car that is being commissioned by Toyota Germany.

Don't think Toyota will look to build beyond the initial 25K units worldwide that were required for homologation purposes. They are likely to be losing money on each one give the production process (each GRY taking 10 times longer to build than a regular Yaris), but only time will tell, especially since their plans for the 2021 WRC car were scuppered due to COVID induced lockdowns.

Much more to my liking !!

Ah, the Rocket Bunny body kitted drift car - a bit too much 'Max Power' for me, and hardly a rally homologation special, at least from a purist's perspective...

Any bargains?
Lots of flippers from the looks of it...

I did see a tweet from someone, an owner of a 997.2 GT3 (RS?), who sold his GRY CP back to a dealer for list price because "it was too fast" for his liking!

Not sure I agree with that since it can be enjoyed on the road without having to do stupid speeds, as ably demonstrated by this chap: Toyota GR Yaris - Wet Mountain Road - Sport Mode, so 70% rear bias, with EXPERT mode engaged.

What a magnificient weapon is this GR Yaris! Could co pilot a journalist for 900km in this 4WD beast for a few days. Hands down the best hothatch from the last couple of years. The grip is unbelievable. I'm sure almost nothing will catch you on country roads. Was sceptic about the 3 cylinder engine at first but it is spectacularly good. Hat's off for gazooracing for such a good car.

Great to see pictures of a GRY with a Vee...

Good to hear feedback from a Vee owner. How much driving did you do in the GRY?

A real shame that, and, judging by the following photograph, the GRY did suffer suspension damage, and, possibly, damage to its rear subframe as well. I would not want to drive that one again, and would rather have it written off.
