Not exactly a new member, signed up in 2011 when I first thought about buying one however, disappeared overseas working and the idea fell by the wayside.

When I was home again I ended up buying a R53 Mini GP which was then modified to within an inch of its life and it was an absolute hoot to use. The chance then arose to buy an E46 M3 CSL and I wasn't going to turn that down, more as an investment than a car for regular use.Had it for just under 2 yrs and made a good profit on it, sold it Feb this yr and bought the current car, an E92 M3 Competition Pack (2013 plate). Great car, does everything you could ask of it....I'm just finding it soulless and boring [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

So, time to take the plunge and sort a V6 at long last. Going to see one at a dealer in Notts on Monday, just to have a sit etc and a good look around it as I've never actually seen one in the flesh.

If all pans out ok my M3 will be up for sale Monday pm. It's immaculate (OCD etc :bow: ) so hopefully won't take forever to move.

Then the serious searching will start and should have a budget of between £26,000 to £27,000.

What are folks thoughts of what I'm likely to realistically for that sort of budget? A very good Mk 1 or possibly a Mk 2? Not after a garage queen (done that with the CSL and it was frustrating) nor a high mileage late model. Ideally I'd like to have one I can use as and when without worrying about mileage and value.

All sounds very sensible to me. Good budget and realistic expectations.
The biggest problem is knowing when to pounce.
The club registrar is usually a good person to sound out...

Welcome.

For your budget, you could either get a really tasty phase 1 and have a few grand spare, or pick up a fairly decent average - higher mileage phase 2 via a private sale. (High miles on a v6 tends to be 50k plus - not that they aren't capable of mega miles, but mostly as they are kept as toys).

Personally, id be straight off to talk to MarkK about his red phase 1. It's an extremely clean original car with traceable history through our club. You would do well to find a tidier car for the money.

However, totally unable to do much until the M3 has gone.

Hopefully that shouldn't take too long as I don't really see the point in putting up a car at an unrealistic price and sitting on it for 6 months!

In the meantime I can spend hours reading up on here which, with a bit of luck, will mean not asking too many duck egg questions. Guaranteed to be a couple though [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

I had a similar experience with a Z3M Coupe, great to look at but found it boring to drive and as you say soul-less!

The Vee has that magic ingredient which no amount of power and speed can replace. It's an event just reversing out of the garage!!! Love this car.

Mine's a phase 1, which I have been slowly buying bits for to upgrade to phase 2 suspension and engine(I much prefer the phase 1 front end), and quirkier french dashboard architecture, although have a strong aversion for the blue interior trim (sorted buying a minty, 25k, 1 lady owner, garaged from new auto RXE for not many pound notes as a 'bin the blue plastics' parts source) . [smilie=yay.gif]

Souless and Boring! Having owned an E92 M3, those are two words that certainly wouldn't leave my lips when describing the car [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Good luck with your hunt, the Vee is a great car! (I fear after the GP and M3 you'll be disappointed though.....)

Hi Ali,

The E92 was a stunning car, absolutely faultless, I just couldn't gel with it.

I have an acid test, my main car very rarely sees Winter use so, if I can make a coffee, go into the garage and if whatever is in there makes me smile, I have the right car. The Mini did it, the CSL did it, the E92 didn't, the Clio makes me giggle just looking at it.

I appreciate the V6 speed wise will be sadly lacking compared to previous cars however, these days I'm more into how a car makes me feel rather than how quick it'll get me from A to B......being an old fart helps :rofl:

It certainly was.

I've sat in your GP once at a show, I think you had already sold it back then as the owner was certainly not an old fart. I have to compliment the level you had modded it as it was simply superb. Having coming from my own standard GP to your one, it was simply a level above.

Any mad plans with the vee?

Only took it to a couple of shows, not really my thing. It was probably Liams car when you saw it.

Had a couple of ideas of bits to change however, moving away from the idea of changing anything to be honest. It's great as is
