while looking for a fuse box under the glovebox, to see if the ciggie light fuse had blown, as it too wasnt working, i saw this,
i160.photobucket.com_albums_t198_bidderman1969_CAM_0683_1.webp

so plugged it back in, and the ciggie lighter worked, and so did the blower unit, on all settings....

except one small detail.................. it doesnt switch off in the off position! although it doesnt stay on when the key is taken out of the ignition, so im happy that its safe to leave unattended and locked up ok

this is the wiring under the glovebox, hope this helps

the sliders are probably dirty, contact cleaner.

The heater rheostat is most likely corroded, if I recall correctly they are on a steel plate with a contact grid overlay stuck on them, they corroded and cause shorts which cause issues like not turning off or missing speeds etc.

ah, so i take it these things are available seperately, and not as a whole unit? maight try a scrappy, or failing that, the online part finder thingy

separate, lasts one I bought new was 30 quid at nissan for an almera which was bloody good value, so might be worth pricing up new.
