Heavy Clutch

Hi

I've only recently become a Vee owner. My cars booked in with Fred for a cambelt change in a few week. And he has kindly said that he'll check the clutch over while he has the engine/box dropped.

How heavy are the clutches on a PH1. It's hard to put a measure on, but let's just say, I'm 6'2" young and fit, and finding the clutch a pig.

Sounds like it's too heavy, mines noticeably heavier than a normal car but not a pig by any means.

I'm not sure on other peoples thoughts but for the price of a clutch I'd have it changed while it's accessible anyway unless I knew it was new or as good as.

Fred's going to split the box and give it a once over for me, I'm just hoping for a big improvement on the current pedal

What are you used to driving? I drove a new fiesta for a few months when I got back in the v6 I thought the clutch was broke as I could barely press it! when your used to a heavy clutch it just feels normal.

The phase one clutches are really heavy as standard.
if the engines out anyway it's a cheap thing to replace for peace of mind and to future proof it.

I drive lots of vechiles, just sold a 197, wife's got a megane 175dci. I drive vans at work as well as agricultural equipment testing/development as my job.

All will become clear when Fred gets his hands on it I'm sure. The car has only done 21k, and has sat a lot for the last couple of years. Appearance wise I don't think I could have bought a better ph1, I've just got a few mechanical issues to resolve. Not sure what to compare the clutch too, all I can say is that it's uncomfortable to drive and so far a Disapointing drive.
The clutch to me is heavy, and on release has stiction, which gives it a lack of feeling. Couple this with play in the standard seat, and the engine mounts, make for a shitty pull off and gear change.

Don't worry too much Ivan as I've had to use my vee ( Ph 2 ) as my daily gone for some work and I thought the clutch had a problem!!!!!! Heavy.
But after a few miles with the noise of the v6 behind you it's soon forgotten and all part an parcel of the car :approve:

Also, if there are any issues I'm sure Fred will find them and sort them for you.

I had the same feeling the first time, it was really hard.

I drive a new Civic everyday which the clutch pedal feels like chewing gum compared to the Clio. You just have to get used to it, now I prefer the hard clutch as it feels more sporty...
