Head gasket & engine bay tidy up

Been busy last week or two doing the head gasket and bits on my quadra. Also cleaned up rocker cover and bits. Took a few pics was meaning to take more but forgot to. Almost all done now just got to fill engine with cheap oil and run for 20 mins, drain out and refill with good stuff. Take rocker off and retighten head and fill cooling system with summer coolant and bleed.
All being well will be back on the road the weekend cant wait. Heres a link to my photos http://s767.photobucket.com/albums/xx318/sc21quadra/quadra/Head gasket/

Cheers mate, im well happy with the before and after view. I also cleaned all the engine block, sump, subframe etc with gunk and hosed off. No more old ****ty oil on my engine, happy days..........

nice one mate, thats a good effort!! nice looking engine bay, how did you find it doin the head gasket? ive just had mine apart to do the same!

Awesome. :biggrin1: Careful though, Dan will be along in a minute to take the the piss for making it look nice...... :boxing: lol

Not too bad Dan, this is the second head gasket ive done, done one on my old quadra so this time it went better and had time to clean up engine bay. Worth doing if you have the time. Hope yours goes well.......

Lookin' good Scott.....by the way, what primer/paint did you use for the rocker cover...??? I think i'm gonna matt black the one on the black pearl.....

Hi Jono bought some aluminum engine bay spray paint from a place called trago mills, you might of heard of it. I used hycote engine enamel aluminium no primer required, seems to be bloody good stuff and only cost ?4.09 for a tin bargain. As for the plenium used gloss black and that was only ?2 a tin. Will have to sort a meet out soon now the weather is good,, mine should be back on the road by weekend , cheers..........

Yeah it didn't go to bad getting it apart! Its the first 21t headgasket I've done and I found it fairly an easy job! Only thing I got stuck on was getting the bottom aux belt off! Couldn't see how to de-tention it!

Thanks.....did you just clean, rub-down & clean again before spraying......??

As for a meet - i'm up for it but won't have the car until mid-late April. I expect my friend Paul would come along in his GTA turbo & possibly Gavin in his ubber rude 911 classic..+ any other folks from the south by southwest region who may well be up for coming along...:biggrin1:

Yeah Jon rub it down to get any old paint off, use a couple of different grades of wet and dry! Just make sure you get rid of any traces of grease and dirt!

Or if you wanted I'm getting some bits powder coated soon so I get any bits you want doin at the same time, I'm goin to get some bits off Ollie soon so I will be down your way!

Deffo up for a meet as long as mines alive! Failing that I will bring the cossie!

Thanks Dan, that's mighty fine of you....i may buy one that's in need of a clean & then get it shot blasted & powder coated in matt black - let me know when you're heading down this way & i'll track a spare one down....

As for a meet - i wouldn't be going unless the black pearl is ready so it's likely that you'll have time to repair your poorly 21....

Have a word with Ollie mate I'm sure he's got plenty haha I'm getting a rocker cover, plenum and inlet manifold of him so I didn't have to have mine off the road whilst I was having the powder coating done! Mind you don't really matter now as its in bits and not goin any where fast lol

Tell you what......get yours or the one from Ollie powder coated in matt black & i'll buy it of you.....cheeky i know....but if you don't ask, you don't get....;-)

I used a drill with a wire brush attachment on the end to clean my rocker etc, very fast and easy , saves all that rubbing by hand. As for a meet jon near end of april would be good ,,,,,,,,scott

What do you want done? Just the rocker or and plenum? Tell you waht I will get it done for ya you just pay the cost of the part off Ollie and pay a bit towards the cost for powder coating! Cool?

Just the rocker cover would be cool with me....i'll PM Ollie & grab one from him & as a return favour, if you arrange what you want from Ollie, i'll pick it up & drop it to you FOC....how's that for a deal.....+ i'll pay for mine to be powder coated.....cool..??
