Hagerty Limited Mileage Declarations

Folks,

Hagerty Insurance

I have read a few previous Insurance threads about Hagerty and rang Ruth today and the policy looks really good with the following benefits ...

1. No concept of NCD due to them being classic car specialist
2. Excellent track day options (Excludes Nurburgring) at 15% of yearly premium for fully comp cover (10% of agreed value is the excess)
3. Inclusive breakdown cover
4. Inclusive 90 days European cover
5. Inclusive legal cover

The only things which alter the premium value (assuming a minimum age which I think is 30), from what Ruth says, are ...

1. Excess payments
2. Declared milage (5000 being the maximum with increments in 1000 miles from 0 to 5000)

Limitations include ...

1. Must be second car only, locked in garage and used only for occassional use i.e. not daily driver
2. Usually no modifications but it appears some are allowed (mine are anyway i.e. splitter, seats, filter, bulkhead)

So, previous threads have indicated some pretty low premiums (lower than mine) so is anyone prepared to say what their excess and mileage declarations are ?

My quotes were (pretty competetive given the features) ...

£416 for 4000 miles and £250 excess
£444 for 5000 miles and £250 excess

Thanks

Martin

£480 £100 compulsory excess, no voluntary excess and 5k mileage me and 2 named drivers. The policy was taken out on 1/6/09

Blimey Martin I thought your insurance would have been a bit cheaper than that given your age to be honest   [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Joimg apart, that is actually my point Phill ! Hence why I am asking other peoples parameters to be able to query the figure to see if there is any room for movement ;-)

Hi,

I know Ruth personally at Hagerty and I would be surprised at any room for movement in the premiums unless you start increasing excesses and lowering annual mileage etc? They are already giving a 10% car club discount for v6clio.net members. I can always give Ruth a shout if you need to know more?

Pete

i don't know why I bother sometimes lol

I wouldnt mind it was me who suggested trying Hagerty for quotes last July and got the extra discount for V6 members.

Have you tried Noel Dazely Martin ? I've renewed with them for the last 2 years.

Hi Pete and others,

I could tell from the way Ruth answered the phone and the first couple of sentences that Hagerty's were going to be an excellent outfit. I contacted Hagerty's and specifically Ruth as a result of posts I remembered on here ;-)

I posted simply to provide information on my findings and to canvas details of people who are already insured as it is very hard to compare apples with apples sometimes where insurance is involved as usually there are so many factors - that is why Hagerty's seem like a breath of fresh air as they are so specialist that they make things very simple with only a handful of variables to adjust the premiums ... I don't remember so much detail being posted before though about how their model works - another reason for providing the information and asking the question publicly.

I spoke again to Hagerty's today and they have explained to me more about how the mileage declaration and costing works and it is encouraging to see them suggesting that it is acceptable to declare a mileage on the conservative side to gain the lowest premium providing you are honest about contacting them if you exceed the allowance and pay any excess on a pro-rata basis ... Adding an additional £100 or so of excess also has a pretty large impact in reducing premiums so I am also aware of this.

I think the best option for me is a policy for an initial 4000 miles and £350 excess at a cost of £375 or so with a phone call to them if I exceed the mileage. So this is probably what I will do tomorrow ;-)

Good one Martin you won't regret it. I have got my old man to do his Cobra insurance through them as well this week. I will have to ask Ruth next time I talk to her that there should be an additional 10% discount for all of us that drive the faster black gold vees.

I'll 2nd that Pete :thumb

I concluded the deal with Darren who, by the sound of it, has owned his fair share of high HP cars - including a Carlos Sainz Celica GT4, which is basically what my main car is ... Always good when you can relate to the people you do business with too :D

When I contacted my old insurer to lapse my policy (bearing in mind they are a car club specialist) they also agreed that the Hagerty policy details sounded VERY good and that on a personal level they would probably have done the same thing as me.
