grimey to shiney! (R19 Detailing Pics!!!)

well, had Tom visit today for what he hoped was a one day car cleaning session, :mrgreen: but alas, its turned into 2 days for a good clean up and polish of his beloved 19!

so as per usual, it was a wash, clay, and detail!

on arrival............

came up ok we thought

now the fun stuff..........













yep, i let him loose with a very sophisticated piece of equipment............. unfortunately he got a bit carried away.............





then onto the claying............. definately needed it!


damn them RR flyer boys, cant leave any Renault anywhere these days without getting one stuck under a wiper! :roll:




then onto the power polishing..............




while i beavering away polishing, Ton was doing some wetsanding......




this is half of the front wing that Tom had wetsanded, and I polished up


where we are upto now..............






all i can say was, it was bloody hot today, and we worked our asses off.

Cheers Ash. More pics scroll down. Don't get the wrong idea, it wasn't me doing all the work, I was just playing the magician's assistant

Three caveats:
- Exhaust is hanging low because I am still waiting for three new rubbers which I ordered 8 days ago from buypartsby.
- Offside sill cover needs pinning at the top, the fixings were at my home
- Front bumper and grille are still sagging, really I'd like a new bumper but in the meantime I will have to look at other methods of attaching it

Along with the cosmetic work today I also reinstalled the clocks, column shroud etc which I was waiting for a replacement component before doing. Now everythign works perfectly, I also installed a *brand new* indicator stalk, it still has the orange legend and everything (pic another time). Also re-routed the front washer jet pipe, adjusted the sunroof glass and a load of other bits and bobs that have been on The List for ages.

Anyhow on with the additional pictures

Tried to catch the drain cover reflection, poor angle. Note mega smart plastics. Sill cover is WIP.

Nice job lads, I'm gonna have 2 flat sand mine someday, can never get the swirl marks out of it, looks shit in the sun.
What's the little pad you have on the grinder? and what sort of compound did you use? (if it's not a trade secret or anything)

used a variety of pad and polish compounds, the smaller pads were for getting into tighter gaps

after sanding, used Menzerna Power gloss, them brought it upto gloss firstly with Menzerna Intensive polish, then used Dodo Lime Prime on a glossing pad.

was bloody hard work, and im not 100% happy with it, so it will be perfected at a later stage

tip for you Tom, go to a petrol station late on, the forecourt lights will highlight anything we've missed, and should also give you a great view of the deep glossy finish
